What do the stats say?

Yep, that was my reading of it. Even of we had a decent keeper and cut out the ridiculous defensive cock-ups, we're still one of the worst four sides.
Can't really be a surprise. We've looked devoid of any inventiveness whatsoever. It's like someone has set a shit tactic on Football Manager and gone on holiday and left it running. Too predictable going forward, clueless at the back and with GK that's as useful as a chocolate fireguard. And as for the choice of subs...

Comparing this year to last year, our xGA has actually improved.
According to footystats.org, our xGA last season was 1.81 per game, and this season it's down to 1.58.

That means we're not giving teams as many good chances as we did last season. So our defending has improved...
Our xG this season has also improved, slightly. Up from 1.46 to 1.52.

Last season we conceded nine goals fewer than xGA said we should. This season we've already conceded eight goals more than we should.

There are two main reasons why xGA can differ from actual goals conceded. One is the quality of finishing. The other is the quality of goalkeeping.

Some of the goals we've conceded this season have been exceptional finishes. We can't do anything about that.

But we can do something about the goalkeeping.

And this makes sense. We've had some absolute belters scored against us and some that the keeper should have done much better with.

Definitely shows those nay-sayers that Vardy has clearly been our best striker this season.

It shows that our strikers have scored seven goals between them. Which is pathetic.

This is a pointless, meaningless table. If anyone in their right mind thinks Daka is anything other than utterly hopeless then they need surgery. He's a concrete duffer.

Can't help it. I love stuff like this.

It shows some age old truths really.

Brighton would be top 4 if they had a striker worthy of the name.

We're nothing without our former top level striker.

Shows how lucky we've been really...& how the future definitely now holds nothing but mediocrity at the very best. Barring either another miracle signing, or adjusting how we play so that we end up a team that shares the goals around liberally.

It's been a wonderful decade hasn't it ? The literal opposite of the one that preceded it. We will remember it fondly.
