I thought it didn’t and that’s the point. You never hear people say, ‘Team X is top of the actual table and the XG table’. It’s only ever used for the opposite reason, ‘This team is 2nd in the table but it’s not sustainable based on their XG’.

I don’t think anyone is saying it’s perfect, but xG is a much better indicator than possession, or shots on target, or yellows or any of that shit.
