Talked to a Ladies' Luncheon Club today about Lily Parr. Greatest achievement: getting a £30 speakers' fee (and nice and enthusiastic ladies). Worst achievement: it cost me £25 to get there and I wasn't refunded. But I got an OK salmon lunch.

Now done in. But the fiver is welcome.As was food.

I should never have chosen this path in life........You know, I get £9 for marking an MA assignment which takes 2 hours in all. Less than minimum wage for a kid of 16. I got £4,000 for a year's research and writing of my last book. Which is why it's my last book

I think I should apply to be a burger flipper and just say, 'Do you want fries and a large Coke and swine flu with that with that?' Could I do that? That's the big question.

Ho hum............
