Where are the big signings?

Are more signings needed?

Derby have just signed Croft from Norwich on a free, that is a quality bit of business for them and the type of player we could do with tbh.

( it must be advantageous to have newbies onboard for the start of pre-season training (something we never do!)

Signing the right players is far more important than getting them for the start of pre-season training.

Two years ago we had six new signings by the time training started, and another three a few days later. Most of them were rubbish.

Last year we had three new Pearson signings (plus one Holloway signing) in time for the start of training.

This year we'll have at least four new signings in time for the start of training, if we count Brown and Hobbs as 'new'. That's more signings than most teams have made so far this summer.

I was thinking that. We signed something like thirty nine players before our first pre-season game in 2007 and.. well, I've blocked out the memory to be honest.

We dont necessarily need to spend big but we do need quality at centre midfield and striker back-up.
For the last few years the official team photo has absent players(ie signed afterwards), looks like same again this year ( it must be advantageous to have newbies onboard for the start of pre-season training (something we never do!)

I don't think you get quality strikers coming as backup. I think Nigel needs to make a judgement on whether Steve Howard can manage a season at this level or whether to get a younger big man and use Howard from the bench when necessary. We have seen with Paul Dickov how rapidly a player can deteriorate in his thirties and Steve Howard's style is one of "extreme wear and tear".
I have great memories of Paul Dickov in his prime and one of the few disappointments of last season was seeing him struggle. I have great memories of Steve Howard last season and do not want to see him struggling.

I was saying that the "big" signing are taking a very long time and they were taking the piss.

They are not taking a long time and I fail to see how something that has not/ might not occur can 'take the piss'

And what would you class as a 'big signing'

Erm a signing where we have to sign a decent sum of money or a player from a decent premier league team.
