If the rumours are correct it seems that the board were ready to recommend MM's offer at that time - but when he came back from seeing his sick mum he substantially changed the offer without any apparent reason.

I don't think this is correct. I understand that the present, and much reduced offer, was put in immediately before he went incommunicado for the week or so that he was out of the country on compassionate grounds.

So do I.

So that's 2 of us. We're bound to be wrong!:icon_wink

If MM gets 75% of the shares then he is able to do a rights issue - putting more of his money into the club in new shares and effectively diluting the holding of the other shareholders. As soon as the other shareholders are "diluted" down to 10% he then has outright control.

Have you got any idea how difficult that would be to do? Clearly not, or you wouldn't have brought it up. I note that you heard the suggestion on Radio Leicester - I really don't know where they get there ideas from!

To increase his percentage of the shares from 75% to 90% by this method, it would be necessary to issue a vast number of shares - the number of shares would have to be more than doubled; there would have to be 2½ times the number that there are now and MM would have to buy twice as many of the newly issued shares than he had already bought to get the 75% in the first place. And don't forget that it would be open to any shareholder to buy the newly issued shares, thereby increasing the number that MM would have to have issue (and buy) to achieve his 90%.
