As you say, Oakley is effective, and presumably now official, club captain, but when his tenure comes to an end (7 games time imo) I think it should be given to Jack Hobbs. He's all the trappings of a quality player and responsibility can bring the best out in a player.

Hobbsy. I have no doubt if we keep hold of him he will go onto become a City legend.

Yep, I'd go for Hobbs too.

Although, I think we could well see a more senior captain figure come in, especially if we go up.

Jack Hobbs may have some of the qualities that make a good leader - he may for all I know a strong character respected by the other players.

However, something often forgotten is the most important quality of leadership is judgement. This usually comes with experience - what to say and perhaps more difficult what not to say, when to speak to a manager about a problem and when not. The obvious exception as a young captain was Bobby Moore but then as a character he was - well - exceptional.

Let the young players spend their next four or five years learning their craft. Hobbs and Morrison have such potential and can learn so much from Pearson, Powell and hopefully Tunchev. They are excellent Championship defenders and I would like to see them become excellent Premiership players (with Leicester of course).

I don't know enough about the characters of the older Leicester players to choose one but Nigel does. Then let the younger players watch how he goes about the job.

Is the captain really an important role in football? I have my doubts. Moore and Beckenbauer may be legendary captains but they're once in a generation players. As far as geeing up team-mates goes, most good teams tend to have a few players who can urge on more introverted team-mates. The media ballyhoo around the England captaincy is absurd and I don't think it would happen elsewhere.

I think Italian clubs tend to just give it to the longest-serving or oldest player, which seems reasonable to me. Oakley sounds fine.

I would agree with this. I'm sure Hobbs is as much of a leader with as without the armband, just as there many more 'captains' in the teams.

It is a good way to show appreciation to players though, and for that reason maybe Hobbs deserves it more than Oakley.

If we don't go up, I can really see a Prem club come in for Hobbs in the summer & I doubt we will be in a financial situation to say no, given the comments that have been made by Pearson in recent months

It's probably best that it's given to either Oakley or Brown until the end of the season. Pearson doesn't like to change a winning team unless he has to though, so I can see Oakley being left on the bench for at least the next match, and if the team's form continues, then he could well be left on the bench until the end of the season. Brown, as long as he is fit, will start every game until the end of the season IMO, so it makes sense to make him skipper till the end of the season.

I know Oakley practically has been, but now old man clems gone, who do you reckon should be officially appointed?

The "club captain" doesn't necessarily have to be someone who plays regularly, much of the role involves off the field stuff anyway.

The only thing an on the field captain needs to do is call heads or tails before kick-off. Traditionally it's someone who can lead by example and motivate the other players, but you don't need to be captain to do that.
So I really don't care who gets the job, it could change every match as far as I'm concerned.

Oakley for the rest of the season. Nest year I'd go for Brown as the official captain and give the armband to Hobbs when Brownpants isn't playing. This is pressuming Tunchev or someone else won't swoop in and take Brown's place.
