Am I the only one who doesn't get thrilled at the prospect of Billy Davies?

The article in tonights Blackpool Gazette has angered their fans who are desperate for him to stay (they know it will be tough to survive next season even with Larry due to small crowds and little player funding, the opposite of what Larry would get here.

well, one out of two maybe....:icon_cool

I can't see any outcome from this latest merry-go-round being 'thrilling'. Sad truth is, we'll be extremely fortunate to get someone like BD now. Can't see anyone with a job coming here. It would be like betting everything you had on a single number at roulette.

Maybe nothing, but some of the odds on BD seem to have dropped and then a couple of sites have pulled the book on our next manager this evening. Could be a temporary shift or maybe he's got his foot in the door?

Personally, I'm praying for BD or Lawrie Sanchez. Either would be something of a coup considering our plight and owner. No other option appeals.

Please God don't let it be Sanchez. It has to be Davies or Grayson, preferably Billy Davies.

Would be delighted with either Davies or Grayson, really fail to see why such negativity surrounds Grayson, he has made significant achievements in each of his seasons at Blackpool, in the first season he saved them from relegation when they looked doomed, second season he took them up and then last season against the odds he kept Blackpool in the championship ( A feat that wasn't achieved here !!!).

As for Davies, I fear he is using us as a stalking horse to recieve better offers, I would be surprised if he was prepared to drop to league 1 and work with Mandy, when IMO he is a dead cert to recieve far more attractive offers over the coming months.

Fair point regarding Davies. He's sly enough to use us for leverage. Our advantage is that there aren't any other jobs available better than ours really (unless he wants to go to Hearts and I can't see that).

Regarding Grayson, I completely fail to see the attraction so many of you seem to have for him. Aside from the fact the he used to play for us, what's the big deal? If he wasn't a former player, he wouldn't even be being discussed. He's done a good job at Blackpool but the two clubs are not comparable in any way. Taking him on is no less of a risk than a total novice manager. Nobody has a clue whether he'd be up to it or not. In our plight, we can't afford a gamble like that.

Consider if we'd drawn either of our games against Blackpool last season. In both games Blackpool were certainly not the better side. We'd have stayed up and they would have gone down. Simple as. Then would you be wanting him?

It has to be someone who has managed and delivered under pressure. It also has to be someone who can handle the owner. An incredibly tough couple of attributes to get considering where we are and what our managerial reputation is. Grayson fulfills neither of them.

Just for the record - Simon Grayson spent £95,000 after getting Blackpool promoted and still managed to get his team above us who spent close to £5m. He can quite clearly motivate a team of journeyman and never will be's to finish above our overpaid under performing stars. FACT!

But aren't filling their ground to near 100% capacity week after week. Surely they gotta be making dough every matchday. IMO Grayson would be extremely foolish to go from a job where he can't fail (extremely early in his football career) to a job where he could be out of the door after every loss.

It would be nice to sentimental value, back in days gone by when we played Peterborough etc. Grayson and Thompson were on the pitch. :icon_roll But that's about it really....does he like white plimsoles though?

Good point well made.

It all comes down to whether he has ambition and the bottle to take on a much bigger job than he currently has now. If we were riding high in the upper reaches of the Championship or in the Premier then he would probably not stand a chance of getting the job. This could be his only opportunity of bagging a bigger job so would be foolish to turn it down. People like Ince & Ferguson will always have opportunities from name alone which is not something Grayson can rely on.

But if you believe in your ability to manage, then if it does go tits up at Blackpool, you'll be back bigger and stronger elsewhere. We'll go around in circles because the same argument could be made if he joins City....:icon_lol:

He's spent 3 years in management...so to be cautious IMO wouldn't be showing a lack of ambition.

Several people on here argued that we as a club were too big for IH and he was more suited to managing a team who were seen as 'the underdog'. Surely this also applies to Grayson?

Not many argued that, to be fair

Most people wanted him gone based on his demonstrated incompetence to manage (size of club is irrelevant IMO) - plus the fact that the first ever manager to send us to our current level should not be allowed to continue simply on a point of principle

Yes but he has played for Leicester City and that's all that matters!!

Apparently.

If you have the chance to better yourself and you don't do it then to me you are lacking ambition. If you really want to acheive things and be the best you can be then you have to get off your arse to do it. Staying at Blackpool would be the easier thing to do but a decision I would think he will regret longterm. That said, he would have to have the job offered to him first which is by no means a guarantee.

It doesn't matter at all

Anyone who can't see that he has done a good job at Blackpool is a bit of an idiot in my opinion

Just as good a job as Paul Ince has done, for example

I think those that did were trying to give reason for why we were struggling under Holloway even though he was enjoying relative success at Plymouth before he joined us. But then he was given more than a few months there.

Either that or we all saw him stuck in the dugout against Stoke staring into a piece of paper looking like a beaten man. We played for a 0-0 and got one. Just incase you were wondering the teams around us went for it, won and stayed up!! He took us down to DIV 3. He was out of his depth and had to go!!
