Leicester City's latest arrival has been delayed until next week after the deal was postponed at the 11th hour.
City boss Robert Kelly was set to bring in his fifth loan signing, from a Premiership side, in time for tomorrow's big home clash with West Bromwich Albion.
The move, however, has been put on ice. Without naming his target, Kelly said: "The club in question had a few injuries and so they needed him.
"Nothing is ever done until it is done. These things happen, but we hope to resurrect it next week."
City are also trying to extend the loan of Preston midfielder Jason Jarrett until the end of the season.
Kelly could be forgiven for feeling that his squad, riding on a wave of three wins in a row, does not need too much done to it, but he said: "Anything that will strengthen us is what we will be trying to do.
"The lads have done very well recently but we cannot take anything for granted, and facing West Brom is going to be a good test for us."
Complacency might have been a factor if City were not facing such strong opposition as the Baggies, who have their sights set on promotion.
And, while West Brom will have heeded City's recent run, they will be confident of lifting all three points, as they did at the Hawthorns with a 2-0 win in September.
The carnival atmosphere of last Saturday, when Milan Mandaric's arrival was greeted with overwhelming joy at the Walkers Stadium and was followed by a fine 3-0 win over rivals Coventry, might not be repeated, even if this is another Midlands derby.
Even after three successive wins, City are under no illusions that they have somehow "cracked it" just yet.
Kelly said: "After all we have come through, there is no danger of that. We have had some pain, and you learn from it, so we know it is going to be a very tough game.
"They are a good side who were in the Premiership last season and have managed to keep most of those players who played in the top flight, so they will have a lot of quality.
"But we will be confident of competing. We did not play well at Burnley on Tuesday and, if we do the same this time, we will probably not win.
"But there were good elements of our play at Turf Moor, especially in the skill we showed in defending.
"Other aspects might not have been as good, but defending well should not be underestimated and 1-0 was a good result for us."
City are likely to be unchanged, although they are waiting on a fitness check on midfielder Stephen Hughes.
Kelly, always reluctant to make changes, is set to give the same line-up the chance to notch four in a row.
Meanwhile, City's clash against local rivals Derby has been switched to Good Friday, April 6 (2.45). The game, which had been scheduled to kick-off the following day, will be screened live on Sky.
