just a bit out of the mocury

Leicester City's latest arrival has been delayed until next week after the deal was postponed at the 11th hour.

City boss Robert Kelly was set to bring in his fifth loan signing, from a Premiership side, in time for tomorrow's big home clash with West Bromwich Albion.

The move, however, has been put on ice. Without naming his target, Kelly said: "The club in question had a few injuries and so they needed him.

"Nothing is ever done until it is done. These things happen, but we hope to resurrect it next week."

City are also trying to extend the loan of Preston midfielder Jason Jarrett until the end of the season.

Kelly could be forgiven for feeling that his squad, riding on a wave of three wins in a row, does not need too much done to it, but he said: "Anything that will strengthen us is what we will be trying to do.

"The lads have done very well recently but we cannot take anything for granted, and facing West Brom is going to be a good test for us."

Complacency might have been a factor if City were not facing such strong opposition as the Baggies, who have their sights set on promotion.

And, while West Brom will have heeded City's recent run, they will be confident of lifting all three points, as they did at the Hawthorns with a 2-0 win in September.

The carnival atmosphere of last Saturday, when Milan Mandaric's arrival was greeted with overwhelming joy at the Walkers Stadium and was followed by a fine 3-0 win over rivals Coventry, might not be repeated, even if this is another Midlands derby.

Even after three successive wins, City are under no illusions that they have somehow "cracked it" just yet.

Kelly said: "After all we have come through, there is no danger of that. We have had some pain, and you learn from it, so we know it is going to be a very tough game.

"They are a good side who were in the Premiership last season and have managed to keep most of those players who played in the top flight, so they will have a lot of quality.

"But we will be confident of competing. We did not play well at Burnley on Tuesday and, if we do the same this time, we will probably not win.

"But there were good elements of our play at Turf Moor, especially in the skill we showed in defending.

"Other aspects might not have been as good, but defending well should not be underestimated and 1-0 was a good result for us."

City are likely to be unchanged, although they are waiting on a fitness check on midfielder Stephen Hughes.

Kelly, always reluctant to make changes, is set to give the same line-up the chance to notch four in a row.

Meanwhile, City's clash against local rivals Derby has been switched to Good Friday, April 6 (2.45). The game, which had been scheduled to kick-off the following day, will be screened live on Sky.

and a bit more about our new boy that should be in next week we hope

08:00 - 24 February 2007 Leicester City are scouring the Premiership for new faces - but they are not going to risk the togetherness of the rejuvenated squad.

New owner Milan Mandaric's ambition demands that City's sights are focused on the top flight as they search for loan signings.

But despite their attempts to cement their survival in the Championship, Mandaric insists there will be no new faces just for the sake of it.

He said: "We are only looking at 20 clubs, the Premiership, because that is the only way forward.

"There might be younger players in our own division who have potential for the future but, right now, to secure our existence in the Championship, it can only be experienced players from the top flight."

Last week Mandaric told the Mercury that he wanted to bring in "two or three players" before today's Coca-Cola Championship game against West Bromwich Albion.

City were foiled yesterday when a Premiership side delayed a loan signing because of their injury problems going into a vital game today, but that might still happen next week.
Mandaric said: "We don't want to bring in too many because we do not want to destabilise the squad. Everyone here is positive and determined to get the points to stay up so we want to keep that atmosphere."

City have now completed the extension of midfielder Jason Jarrett's loan from Preston until the end of the season. Any more moves would also be loans, with permanent deals having to wait until what looks like being a very lively close-season.

First things first, though, and Mandaric said: "Looking at the rest of the campaign, we have 13 games left and I am sure we will win four or five of them which would be more than enough, but of course we want to win as many as possible.

"It would be the wrong attitude to just say four or five wins and that would do, because we want a lot more than that to develop a winning attitude which we hope to be able to carry on to the next season."

West Ham Player? Charlton? Or maybe Sinclair of Man City? It has been said that he is coming into contention for a spot this weekend to cover injuries...
