Its between Yakubu and Clive Mendonca. I vote Clive.

Im not sure Id be too thrilled about it anyway.. would prefer young, up and coming strikers like Charlie Austin from Swindon?

Why don't we try and get Beckford on loan from Everton. He's clearly struggling in the Premiership, but I think he could do a job in the Championship.

Also on my shopping list - Hammill from Barnsley, Ambrose from Palace, St Ledger from Preston (if we decide that we need another Centre Half), Davidson from Preston ( short term replacement for Berner if he decides to leave, and he wouldn't cost much. Proven at this level), possibly Woolford from Scunthorpe.

If we can't get someone like Beckford, consider the likes of Sharp (Doncaster).

The emphasis here is bringing in players that will do a job for us in the Championship. Let's steer clear of the players who may be able to grace the Premiership (Beckham et al) but won't be up to the rigours of the Championship.

So replace 33 year old Berner with 34 year old Davidson. Cracking logic that.

St Ledger's shit too and part of a defence up with our current lot as a joke.

Then we should be bidding good bye to that old pensioner, Steve Howard!!

Everton are scoring so many goals, I'm sure they'd love to send out a striker on loan from their starting lineup.....

And how many times has Beckford hit the back of the net this season. Based on your logic, we should have stuck with Akinbiyi for a few more seasons!

So, what do you think of the other players in my list?
Edit: nugent for a striker, contracts up at Pompey.
I agree with your sentiment, I've already mentioned in the thread.

Hamill = quality but with the 500k, Premier clause in his contract. I suspect we'd be stumped in that one.

Ambrose = bit like Gallagher for me. Sussed out this season and rarely scores from open play. No improvement.

Woolford = good player but similar to what we possess. Can't see the point in collecting another central midfielder with the plenty we have.

Beckford = credible shout if Everton sign another striker.

Sharp = not a fan of his playing style or his personality but that's a personal thing. Can't see Donny letting go of their first million player easy.

Personally, I think the two targets I'd go for are Pratley and Westwood given their contract situation. A look at strikers in similar situations would be worth considering.

Yakubu certainly looks quite capable of fighting his way out of a wet paer bag.

From tonight's report....

'Substitute Yakubu's lack of pace meant he squandered the opportunity to wrap things up in injury time.'

No thanks.
