On Iheanacho, I think there is a developing trend for us fans when we look at a new striker; they're lazy, useless feckwits.

The standard and comparison for years to come is and will be Vardy and Okazaki. Who is likely to match up to them? They charge about like their life depends on it and we've got used to seeing it.

So when we get someone with a different approach, we just see laziness and lack of application. Even those with some credibility in the bank such as Ulloa have got bucket loads of criticism since the title winning season. Likewise, Slimani, Musa and now Iheanacho.

It's going to be hard to be a new City striker for a while.
This has been the case for years. Remember when we had Yakubu scoring nearly every game but he was shit because he didn’t run around wasting energy chasing after useless lost causes like Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuume?

There's a difference between being a different type of player to Vardy, Okazaki, Nugent, Dickov or Hume etc., and spending 90% of your time on the pitch in the centre circle doing absolutely nothing whilst looking sulkily at everyone else around you actually playing football

I don't think anyone thinks he should be like Vardy, because he clearly isn't that type of player

It's more that most people think he should at least try and play like a professional footballer

I just don't understand why he didn't play a stronger team

Perhaps there was some kind of arrangement/agreement between managers that a full strength team would not be employed.

I hate it too, but wishing our squad to be weakened when we’re about to play Man Utd at home is ludicrous.

No one seemed to mind the similar penalties Vardy won in our title winning season.

I can recall one dive in the whole season.

Something I’ve been mulling over recently and this seems an apt place to mention it. Just how bad was JV in his first season for us? What do those who saw him live all season think? Was he at DJ Campbell level?

I saw him live a couple of times that season (and I don’t remember us being on TV much for most of the year) as I just remember him being offside constantly. The difference in him as a player the season after was incredible. I’d love to see 90 minutes of his first season to see why he was so bad - was he running around as he does now but just simply timing it wrong, making the wrong runs? Was he completely off the pace - he’s mentioned his drinking that season?

I honestly don’t get the uniquely British hyperbolically overblown obsession with diving. For one thing, the game has far more important problems that have far greater impact than players occasionally going to ground too easily. For another, referees need to be better equipped to apply the laws of the game consistently and logically. If they were, diving would be completely pointless. It’s no good simultaneously allowing something to exist and complaining about it.

There was a really interesting quote (from an interview?) the season after about how Pearson and the Thai owners totally refocused him and dug into what he really wanted.
I think many footballers probably have the same problem - when the distractions are there, I imagine they’re extremely difficult to ignore when you know they won’t last forever.

I don’t remember Vardy being particularly rated or well received to begin with - like you it felt like he was always offside or snatched too early. Whatever happened massively improved him - and he’s been really quite excellent since, except the first few weeks in the premier. That goal - and the whole game actually - against Man Utd did him absolute wonders.

Vardy was injured at the start of the 2014-15 season, it took him a few games to get back to full fitness and I don't really recall him being that good until the Great Escape was on.

What was the reaction? I presume some were calling for him to be banned?

Probably not, seeing as people don’t seem to have the same vendetta as they do against Gray.

I can only speak for myself but I have no vandetta against any of our players past or present.

My reaction to Vardy diving would be identical to any of our players or opponents.

No action to be taken against Gray. All 3 members of the panel have to believe he dived; one or more beieved he didn't.

Nonsense, the extra 20 minutes would have seen Mahrez and Vardy destroy the minows of Manchester City.

We should have played Wilfred as well and pretended he wasn't suspended.

Simpson would have scored a hatrick and Morgan would have kept them to only 1 goal....... Oh hang on
Erm.... you do realise that the game was 120 minutes don't you? The fact that you think they were only off the pitch for 20 minutes goes a long way to explaining why you don't understand what most people here are saying.

Had the team at the end started the game from the beginning, we'd have more than likely had a better result.

They’ll be some hugely disappointed people on here...

Absolutely perfect. It seems to be a very antiquated view of 'British properness' which creates such a massive sense of injustice when it comes to diving in this country. I don't like it and would rather see players plying their trade more honestly but, exactly as you suggest, there are many more pressing things in football to sort out first.

From what I saw he was superb in the 15-16 promotion season, doing to the a Championship what he did in the prem. The QPR away game live on TV was the moment I saw him for the player he is.
