Assuming it was based on reputation the cliche line-up would probably be something like:

Banks

Nish
S. Walsh
Cross
McLintock

Weller
D. Gibson
S. Smith

Rowley
Lineker
Chandler

Though little is known about many of the pre-60s players, bar the really famous ones, so it's basically ignoring the majority of the club's history, obviously rendering it useless.

If it was based on players I can really remember, since I started really understanding football's dynamics as a spectator sport (around 2004-ish) it'd probably just be the line-up from the past couple of seasons. As anything before that I've put some kind of mental block over.

A good assortment of players - but you have picked a number of left sided players to play down the right (e.g. Nish & Rowley) and one or right sided players to play down the left (e.g. McLintock). Also, whilst Davie Gibson was a truly great player at club level - he was hardly the strongest tackler so I couldn't see him playing centre midfield in a 4-3-3. Of course that's the problem in mixing players from different eras- a number of those you mention belong in the days of 2-3-5(w formation)

As a Leicester fan who went week in, week out & saw some superb players & personalities during the club's Golden Era 1973 - 1983 this is a best 11 / 22 for all the old grizzlies out there....

1. Peter Shilton / Mark Wallington

2. Dennis Rofe / Gary Rowett
3. Steve Whitworth / David Nish

5. Steve Walsh / Bob Hazell
6. Russell Osman / Graham Cross

4. Ally Mauchlen / Bobby Smith
7. Kevin McDonald / Mark Draper
8. Gary McAllister / Muzzy Izzet
11. Keith Weller / Lenny Glover

9. Alan Young / Frank Worthington
10. Gary Lineker / Jim Melrose

This team would hold it's own against most current premiership sides and even Barcelona

The winning team.....

The team looks young, dynamic and talented except for one player.

The last match I played in was during the 1970s when we lost 13-0. As I was one of the worst of a bad bunch and at the gentle suggestion of the captain I realised it was time to bring my inglorious career to an end. Any few remaining shreds of credibility I have on this forum would go immediately if anyone here had ever seen me play.

I have always admired "has-beens" since in football I was a "never-was."
