Looking at the video for the fourteenth time, he glanced one, possibly two, hairs. Maybe caused a split end.

Does that constitute violent conduct?

Nobody is saying that it does constitute violent conduct, they've just been offering an opinion of how the linesman may have interpreted it from his angle

Players should have to wear full body armour to save then from such heinous assaults, in fact let's stop players from going within 20 yards of each other.

I Think once they've had time to mullet over, this will be overturned.

Are you suggesting that Fergie *isn't* a bad loser?

No place for good losers in the professional game.

Fergie is a bad loser - but the point I'm making is that he uses his moans and rants strategically to very good effect. I don't think that many other managers have mastered this art.

On a different subject - i.e. Beckford. Unfortunately the matter in hand is about 'intent' and not the 'effect' of his actions. You are likely to get banned for the same time as playing at it like Beckford as you would for giving someone a right kicking. Unfair? Maybe...but everyone knows the rules. I'll be pleasantly amazed if we win this appeal.

The intent to do what though? I honestly can't see any intent to do anything on the various replays I've seen of the incident. He just brushes him with his foot as he runs off, it doesn't even deserve acknowledging.

Absolutely bizarre sending off, and I'd say that if it happened to any player at any club... I'll be amazed if we don't win it to be honest, and if we don't it'll be a sad day for football.

On the basis of the usual response by players, I am certain that if the Brighton player had felt Beckford's boot on his head he would have been rolling around the floor 'in agony' clutching his head with both hands!

Out of the 2 most recent points of view, from Redditch and IndieRich, I'm in the Redditch camp.

Personally, I don't think it warranted a red card but I can't see the FA overturning it. Just hope I'm wrong but I very much doubt it.

If appeal is not successful, will there be extensions to the ban?

If it is decided that the appeal is 'frivolous'', the ban may be extended.

My guess is that it won't be regarded as frivolous. We'll be pretending not to understand that the the severity of the contact is not the issue. The FA will rule from a strict viewpoint that there was intent and the ref will have seen nothing in the video evidence to change his mind. But the FA will appreciate that this is a fairly extreme case at the low end of the scale.

Lesson is players shouldn't get anywhere near these situations. Problem for Pearson is that Beckford was being to deliver the goods and show a good attitude so he won't wish to fine him to spoil that process.

Only guessing of course - the FA might overturn the ban; award us all three points and recommend Beckford for a CBE.
