Dennis w*s* was never convicted of GBH was he. Pity. He'd have made a good signing for that lot.

Don't I feckin know it. I swear my ma has mentioned every week since the incident that she wishes charges had been made against the little twat.

There has been a tendency to treat this in a light hearted manner. There is nothing trivial or light hearted about the way Marlon King assaulted a young woman for rejecting his advances - the latest in a string of offences.
I hope noone will use that unsavoury phrase - "he has paid his debt to society." It may well be that his victim will never get over the shock of the assault. She is the one he is in debt to.

One thing is for sure - everyone who has ever used the word "Covscum" will be against signing him. If he does come here we will forfeit the right to sneer at any of our rivals.

I, too, am uncertain as to whether I would want King at the club, but are you seriously suggesting that a person is not allowed to start again, once his debt to society has been paid: or are you saying that the judge inflicted the wrong sentence and that football clubs should rectify the situation? Either way, it sounds dangerously near to vigilantism.

As David said, it's the latest in a string of ******* offences. It is possible to be a **** as a one off event and be allowed a second chance by many, he is a serial **** so I for one would not give him the time of day.

Two things. One he is now 31 and would rather invest in someone younger and this, admittedly from Wikipedia. He is a professional ****.

Personal life

Incidents and legal cases

While on loan to Hull City, King was alleged to have headbutted teammate Dean Windass in a casino in Scarborough. Hull City stated that the matter had been dealt with internally, and both players remained with the club. Windass later described the incident as a "storm in a teacup".

King has convictions for 14 offences, dating from 1997. He received fines, driving bans, community service sentences, a rehabilitation order and orders to pay compensation on convictions including: theft from a person and from a car, criminal damage, and attempting to obtain property by deception; fraudulent use of vehicle licence document, driving without insurance, speeding, drink driving; a wounding incident while playing amateur football, and two cases involving assault of young women rejecting his advances in the Soho area of London.

Two cases have led to imprisonment. In May 2002 he received an eighteen month prison sentence for receiving stolen goods, in relation to a BMW convertible that he was found driving. He was found not guilty of a charge of assaulting a police officer in a related case. His solicitor commented that "His reputation will be tarnished forever, whatever success he achieves, he'll always be referred to in a Tyson-esque way as someone who has had a criminal past and that is a considerable penalty." Gillingham continued to pay his salary while he was in jail, and supported in his appeal, which resulted in the sentence being reduced to nine months, and he was released on licence after five months, returning to the Gillingham team within two days of his release.

In December 2008, again in the Soho area, King was arrested on suspicion of punching a 20 year-old female university student in the face, causing a broken nose and split lip for which she was treated in hospital. He was later convicted of sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sentenced to 18 months in prison and placed on the sex offender register for seven years. Wigan Athletic immediately initiated the cancellation of his contract. King’s agent, Tony Finnigan, said he was confident that his client would find a club on his release, which was on 29 July 2010, and accused the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) of failing to offer support. Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the PFA, said that the PFA did not represent players when they have broken the law and been convicted on non-footballing matters. It would support members with anger management or other issues if approached but no approach had been made by King. After his release, he made an appeal against the conviction which was unsuccessful.

Well said that man. He is scum of the highest order.

To repeat the point I made earlier King's debt was to his victim and not to society. I am a great believer in redemption; but this is not achieved by merely not reoffending. Redemption involves a positive effort over a period of time. The most obvious case is the charity work over many years of John Profumo.

There are any number of jobs that are closed to people who have been to prison - financial services and work with children are two examples. It is quite normal for employers to ask whether an applicant has a prison record. Coca Cola decided not to be assocated with Wayne Rooney after a comparatively minor incident; Rooney had broken no law

I would ask OldFox what he thought when he heard the chants about Kings victim from the Coventry fans and whether he would want to hear them from our fans.

From what I've been told, Cov received quite a few complaints about that incident, many from their own fans who were there, and several from Leicester fans(one who also pointed out the morons singing the song would almost certainly not think it so funny if one of their relative had been the victim of an assault.)

I think they put summat on their website not condoning the chants(not sure as I don't go near their OS urgh)
It's not often I feel irked enough to email our club, let alone another one over summat but that was one of those times.

At least he didn't kill someone then run off, like Lee Hughes did.

At least he didn't get drunk then try to drive 300 miles and end up killing two young boys, like Luke McCormick did.

At least he didn't have convictions for rape at the age of 15 then go on to murder his girlfriend, like Mario Celaire did.

At least he wasn't involved in the gang rape of two 12 year olds, like Ashley Charles, Luke Farrugia, Jahson Downes (and three of their friends) were.

At least he didn't shoot someone dead, like Gavin Grant did.

At least he didn't kidnap and beat his pregnant girlfriend, like Bruno Fernandes did, or murder his girlfriend, like Bruno Fernandes allegedly did.

At least he didn't kill a pensioner while sending text messages while driving, like Adam Chapman did.

At least he didn't kill a man by kicking him in the head, like Jimmy Kelly did.

I grant you, Marlon King is a scumbag. I certainly wouldn't want to know him. But it could be a lot worse.

He is a scumbag but he could be worse. Is this a reason to sign him?

We have a by-election in Leicester South. So far none of the parties have come up with this ploy:
Our candidate is not as bad as Hitler, Stalin or Mao.
Vote for a lesser evil.

So, whether or not he is offered employment by City, or anybody else, is entirely irrelevant to the crime he committed.

Nope. Just saying, it could be worse. You probably aren't keen on the concept of your mechanic being a convicted armed robber, or the bloke down the chip shop having convictions for GBH, or your waiter being French, but that's how the world is. The fact is his criminal record is irrelevant to his employment as a footballer. If he came to City and did a job, that's up to the decision makers at the club. I don't have to like him or cheer for him or sing his name, and I'd much sooner not see him in a blue shirt, but if he scores goals for our club I'll still celebrate them.
