Perhaps CMS is not very bright: he looked at the table on the front page of Talking Balls (which he consulted, of course) and thought that he'd rather join the team in 4th than the one in 15th! :102:

that would also account for him ignoring West Ham's overtures

Blown out for Brighton!? I know they've had a cash injection but seriously? Andrew Nevilles early days in the job don't read too well. Let's hope for a big improvement.

Oh ffs were you the guy on the phone in? As Stringer said, its not like we were going ll out to get him. He'd have been a good back up for us, but Brighton are building a team around him and can make him their highest paid player.

I wouldn't look too much into the fact we "lost out" to Brighton.
Money counts more than ambition for some short sighted people.
If he doesn't think he'd have a better chance to get into the premier with either us or WHU, and all that may bring, then more fool him.

As for Brighton being a threat this season, we'll see, I certainly don't think so.

Or maybe we were just being sensible on the wages? He's had an interview on Brighton's Player and basically said Brighton matched his wages but offered a larger signing on fee. Given it being his final big contract understandable reasoning why he chose them. As I have said their owner Bloom is as worth as much as King Power...just he chose at first to invest £20 million on a new stadium which has been rewarded by 16k season ticket holders....probably more than us!

Ffs no I wasnt.

well, at least he knows his limitations and doesn't want to play for a big club

I'll say again, it wasn't CMS who decided our fate in this, it was Sven, he decided to pull the plug on the deal, as apparently CMS returned on saturday but started to become "greedy" and Sven said NO. So with any luck Sven will be moving onto someone else who will hopefully offer us better value for money.

Excellent news IMO

Pretty sure that we can (and will) do a lot better

We will see who goes up. If it is West Ham or Leicester he may well regret going to Brighton. Money is important to everyone but sportsmen are ultracompetitive. That means they want to test themselves against the best and in twenty years time he may well be thinking I could have played against the Man Us and the Arsenals.

Of course WAGs do not care who their husbands play against. It may be that the nice looking young lady in the picture with CMS prefers Brighton. It does seem to me that we too often ignore the influence of wives on transfer deals. Brighton has the sea and is close to London without actually living there.

According to Bert (the man in the know on Foxestalk), McKail-Smith spoke to West Ham today and turned them down in favour of us. Signing to be confirmed tomorrow.
Nothing personal here Micky.

Is it possible we can all stop citing this jumped-up friend of a grass cutter now? He's like a medium making bogus cold-readings and no one seems to remember the catalogue of predictions he gets wrong time and again.

Any chance of a list?

Quote from Barry Fry ...

“Craig Mackail-Smith never went to Brighton for money, I’m absolutely one billion percent sure. It’s not a case of money it’s a case of ambition. He feels Brighton have got ambition and he obviously feels Brighton will be as big a club, if not bigger, than West Ham and Leicester. Only time will tell who’s right and who’s wrong.

Brighton are going to challenge over the enxt few years. Quite a few clubs have come up from League 1 and done well imediately (us for starters), they also have a great manager, great new facilities and seem to have a great board. The location is good for a football club, especially considering the decline of Crystal Palace

Any chance of a list?

Fryatt going, Curtis Davies not signing and the laughable suggestion that John Carew was coming spring to mind, as I had personal knowledge of all three. Everything he said was the product of fiction. Coupled with his sudden bizarre insights into the financial set-up of the club during MMs takeover proved he is nothing more than a fantasist making meals out of titbits.

So... a bit like SuperScout then?

A player I certainly wouldn't have begrudged signing, but the loss of I will not mourn. At every point during the chase I'd have preferred Maynard, so hopefully we'll be able to do a bit more to sign him. Also, as someone mentioned further on up the thread (I cannae be arsed to go and check), the fact that all has been quiet on the Yakubu front may well be a blessing in disguise. I can't see him wanting to rot away in Everton's reserves for a year, so perhaps it'll be the boot up his arse that he needs.

I'm not worried, yet.
