Maybe Mark Bright is right? :icon_conf :icon_conf :102: :102: :102:

I'd just to like to clarifymy position on this - Mark Bright proved to be a better player than City fans gave him credit for but I do not believe his treatment and that of Jordan Stewart was in any way racially motivated.

I agree. mark Bright's problem was that he wasn't Gary Lineker - far too much expectation was piled on him. And I'm not sure why people had such a down on Stewart - apart from his arm dropping off every so often he was quite reasonable.

Stewart didn't have enough 'gumption' and always seemd to chicken out when it came to taking the defender on. People just got very frustrated with his reluctance to try something/anything and in the end when ever he came up against the full back he'd just pass sideways rather than go past and make a cross.

I can't understand why some reason people on here think that players get picked on randomly by the crowd, people just vent their frustration when someone (like Jordan Stewart) clearly underachieves or isn't up to the job, I'd say that Leicester fans are knowledgeable not malicious for the sake of being malicious.

I liked Jordan Stewart and rated him fairly highly. The 2 frustrating things I found with him his that he was prone to "the odd trick" which really wasn't in his armoury and very rarely came off and the massive underachievement from the potential that he at times displayed. This made him very frustrating to watch and sometimes you questioned his motivation when it came to being a team or Individual player?

I'd also like to add that one of the most popular players with City over the last 5 years and my particular favourite over recent years is Les Ferdinand.

Obviously this puts to bed any suggestions that may be banded around from time to time about me and other City fans

Over 2 years ago I voted in a thread on this board for Ferdinand as my player of the year

Post number 8 for those who I think I may have excluded him for being black

As i said months ago, De Vries (for whatever reason) doesn't want to play for us and RK doesn't want him either so if he fails to find a club we'll pay him off.

The reasoning being that he would be one of (if not the) highest paid players and would be 4th choice behind O'Grady, Fryatt and Hume. Its known that he wouldn't take this very well and would be a negative influence in the changing room and that is the one thing RK has managed to restore.

For better or worse, MDV won't be around for the start of the season if all goes to plan.

Probaly the worse thing Mark Bright done was to score 2 goals in the 1st league game of the season against Linekers new team and champions of that time Everton. The fans thought that we'd got a ready made replacement and so when he could do little right after a great 1st game, the fans were straight on his back.

I think one of Jordan's problems with the crowd is that people recognised early potential...and then each season he seemed to regress so there was a natural disappointment which extended to resentment.

One thing is certain is that he needed a move and it's good it worked out OK.

On the subject of Mark Bright; I think he was brought in by Gordon Milne who was highly unpopular partly because of his strong Coventry connections which he worsened by the incredibly stupid Jimmy Melrose/ Tommy English switch.

spot on redditch i really thought he was going to do the business for city but never progressed. Just before he left he was another ryan smith, strutting about like he couldnt give shit.(wearing a polo neck under his city shirt in september :icon_roll )

I agree with Lazzer agreement with Redditch..........also the polo neck was, for me, the final straw............

Spot on, it was the correct decision by Levein, but his inability to adequately replace Stewart was an absolute travesty.

The Melrose/English swap was one of the worst deals LCFC have ever done.

Yes....and that situation damaged the credibility of Milne and together with the eventual loss of home town boy Lineker seemed to impact on the reception given by the crowd to Mark Bright, who played with a distinct loss of confidence. It certainly had nothing to do with any racism.....for instance Larry May, Tony James and Bob Hazell were all extremely popular in and around that era.

Tony James was a few years after that, but you are right with larry may and Bob Hazell.

We have also had Robert Alleyne, Alan Paris before James but the point I was making to a mate about this was that was that players like Mad Frank and Tricky Trev were plainly limited players at best (crap IMO) but won the fans hearts by their workrate and commitment.

If City fans were racist they would have given these kind of players (and Hazell, Paris, James etc fall into this bracket as well) loads of grief for being shite.

The fans are quick to turn or pick on players I agree, but not based on their colour.

I think you're right for the majority of fans, but I think fans who are racist will use that racism as part of the abuse they give players. Apparently Bright receive racist letters, if he was white he may have received similar letters, but without the race element.
