IMO Gallagher would fit into the Fryatt role and deserves a chance of playing in his natural position

Not on last night's evidence he wouldn't - he doesn't look to have anything like the instincts or anticipation you would expect of a good striker, even at Championship level

No way could he fit into the Fryatt role - Fryatt runs his bollocks off, can spot gaps in the channels and exploits them, and actually knows where the feckin' onion bag is. From what I have seen, Gallagher possesses none of those abilities at all

.... and how the **** did he miss that open goal last night! I am sure you could have done better!

In my opinion, it's not a striker we need, it's a creative midfielder. Gallagher had a good chance last night but that was about it. If we don't create sufficient chances, it really doesn't matter who you play up front.

We went through a similar spell last season and NP brought in Mark Davies and the entire season changed. Oh, for something similar.

Trouble is, we're skint. It's questionable if we could even afford to loan such a player.

I agree that they aren't quite in the same mold. And while I think Howard has shot it, in this 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 system he could be just the ticket in the short term.

It wouldn't be pretty football by any means...but apart from Camberwell who gives a monkeys about that if we can get some results.

The great exponent of 4-3-3 was Sir Alf Ramsey who used two strong hardworking strikers in Hunt and Hurst. He also had a world-class attacker in Bobby Charlton. Nigel's options are somewhat more limited.

You don't need me to tell you that the game is enormously different now.

Caleb Folan.

He scored 15 league goals over four seasons for Chesterfield. How could you argue that's anything other than appalling?

There's no way he'd be more helpful in our goal-scoring problem that if we just played Gallagher and Waghorn up front, or even Kermorgant, probably.

I would guess that the lesser problem is getting League approval.

The real issue is whether we can persuade another club to loan us a striker that is a possible replacement for our one and only goal scoring striker.

The solution - as always - would be money.

Problem is that the messages both in terms of recent actions (or lack of) and words ( the lowering of expectations about spending: spun by Hoos and more directly put by NP) don't give rise to that much optimism.

That said, Uncle Milan will realise that without bringing in someone decent that his hopes of selling on the club as a Premiership outfit will be as good as dead.

No, it wouldn't. The 'Emergency loan' system is nothing more than a loophole name for a loan window. West Brom have loaned in Frank Nouble from West Ham yet still have lots of fit strikers on the books and David Martin has gone to Derby but they have plenty of wingers.

I have never known the FL to stop a loan going through during this loan window.

I know - That's what I was trying to say Hazzman.

Just taking a step back - the Fryatt injury is disastrous - tho' a forseeable potential disaster given our reliance on him - but it also sets up a fascinating situation i.e. will this force MM to splash some cash to chase the Premiership dream (of cash)?

I am an eternal pessimist - so I think that he will take the view that the odds are against actually getting promoted via the play offs are not brilliant anyway and not want to spend a good deal. But if he is up for a gamble he might just give it a final go.

I'd never have guessed!
