It was a mid week night match (I'm sure it was a Wednesday). The ground was packed with lots of swaying on the Filbert Street. Weren't we trailing by a couple of goals at one stage in the first half before Frank got his hat trick? Possibly the most gutsy performance I've seen from a Leicester centre forward.

Vaguely remember it as a Monday, whatever the attendance was - 99% of them seemed to be in kop - that unique combination of sweat, stale booze and fags, and urine - a smell that even the pies at the Walkers can't replicate. We were two-nil down after twenty minutes and completely out of it, then Frank Large and Rod Fern really went ballistic and we went to 3-2 up either side of half time. We then got a fourth and they made it respectable in injury time.

Fantastic match - then we went out with a whimper to Everton a couple of rounds later, and didn't really turn up to the Wembley final against City the next year.

Wow! What memories! One of the best games ever.

Was the crowd about 42,000 or have I imagined it?
!

It was only 39k but it was so badly distributed that in some parts of the ground, it felt as though they had let twice that many in.

It was a Monday; a fourth round replay and as the 4th round game had already been delayed by several weeks, the Filbert Street game was played only 2 days after the Maine Road tie. None of the nonsense about the police needing 10 days notice in those days.

Would someone care to avoid me needing to research it and posting all our recent FA Cup results against Man C?

Jeff - legend ;-)

Not good omens though!

Frank Large, not heard that name for years run through a brick wall, never gave up, not one of the most skillful players we have had but certainly one of the bravest. anybody know what happened to him?

any ideas when tickets will be on sale for season ticket holders .

Asked ticket office, they said they won't know until Friday which day of the week our game will be played. Have to wait on TV.:icon_roll
So, I'd say after the weekend. :102:

Apparently became a farmer in Ireland and died some years ago.

A legend at Northampton too - where the supporters' club players trophy is named after him. Also there's a street called Frank Large Walk - I expect you know you're there as there are piles of bricks and half demolished walls strewn around the place.

RIP Frank, and I have to admit - those Cobblers do have a sole.

I've heard the story about him farming before, and I may even have repeated it. It's true that he spent his latter days in rural Ireland but my understanding is that he ran a B&B and worked on occasions as a handyman and gamekeeper on a local estate.

That sounds like something from Monty Python.
