I had to turn down an interview earlier this year as I was away on holiday and they wouldn't re-schedule. I was gutted, but then I got my current job which is much better.
Every time I've been on the other side of the fence and interviewed, there have always been at least 2 candidates who were as good as each other and could have done the job, I always feel sorry for the one I have to reject. It sounds like Cate narrowly missed it.

.More like an internal appointment of which they still need to legally advertise to the outside world. The job was probaly gone before you even looked at it.
