The truth is simple. Dowie was indeed at the cov training ground. However, due to the clubs parlous financial state they were unable to repair his broken toilet. So he nipped down the M69 to use the ones at the Walkers.
Unfortunately the doorman would not allow him in, so he got a cardboard cutout of MM from his car and tried again, this time successfully - just as Newts was heading for the same toilets.
Trust me, I know someone who knows a retired journalist's older sister.
