Joe, I have had an ipod (older model) and now have a Sony NW-A3000. It has 20GB, battery life of almost a day and is very sexy and lovely to use. The only downside is the software. The original version was pants and crashed my (hi-spec) computer. It has gradually got better, and if you use SonicStage rather than the bundled ConnectPlayer then it bats the ipod out of the park. No need for silly formats like with the ipod, that means you need to store your music twice if you want to retain an MP3 version, the sony plays MP3 and WAV. No color screen, but it does have a funky organic LCD screen which is invisible until it turns on! I find that as I'm only playing music on it, I don;t need a color screen.

no, you can put cds on but you have to convert them to ipod format

There's no such thing as "ipod format", the iPod can play music in the following formats AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV and AIFF, which is a far wider range than almost all other digital music players on the market.

My girlfriends Ipod shuffle converts everything to AAC. Explain

At the end of the day Joe, they all play music, and have reasonably comparable battery lives. Unless you are going to be away froma power source for more than a couple of days, it doesn't really matter if you get 15 hours or 20. They are all similarly easy to use, all have their pros and their cons. Get one that you like the look of, the rest is all down to personal taste.

I can't believe how protective people are over what they have, we should have a real debate, Apple Mac or PC!!!

She's got the preferences in iTunes set up incorrectly, or what ever program she uses to put the music on the Shuffle.

Audio formats supported by the Shuffle are: AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV

Erm not exactly sure what you mean b, are you saying having a multi button mouse is some sort of an advantage - in which case have you not seen the Apple Mighty Mouse?

I work almost exclusively on PC's as a designer, but one of the fashion designers in my office has a Mac, trying to use things like Photoshop etc with only one mouse button drives me mad! If you can get multi button mice for them I might have to hit her until she gets one!

I've tried multi-button mice, you've been able to get Microsoft branded ones that can work with Macs for some time, and I absolutely hated it - and yes I do use Photoshop extensively. It's what you're used to at the end of the day, infact I might dump the mouse altogether and go for a table (in both senses of the word).

The problem with tablets is that unless you get a very expensive one, in my experience they tend to be intermittant with their sensitivity. They are alright for sketching.

My ipod has arrived, it has a new serial number and has packaging around it and the "dont steal music" sticker.

I am not going to take it out of the packaging but do you think that if it is packaged this way then it is a brand new one?

Im going to list on ebay soon. What price you you reckon i'll get for it (20GB)?
