If i remember correctly, and I think I do MA said that we had offered to match Blackburns offer to Dickov. If that was indeed the case then how was it better for his family to uproot them and move them a 100 miles north?

And at the time we were favorites to win the leauge aswell. Makes you wonder...
His family were based in the north-west, weren't they? Adams didn't care where any of his players lived.

Dickov lives near Manchester and did when he played for us.

I was just going on what the Birch was saying a couple of days ago on 106 when they mentioned him signing for Man City again, when he said family he must have meant parents :102:

Parents were in Glasgow when he was with us. Father died around time of la Manga.

Might have 2 families of course

(mere speculation m'lud)

I imagine at the age of 30 plus, he wanted to play at the highest level he could and Blackburn offered a certain opportunity of playing in the premiership. In that sense it was a better deal for him.

Likewise, he didn't fancy another gamble on City getting promotion....irrespective of whether we were one of the favourites.

From the above and about every other perspective, he made a wise (from his viewpoint) choice.

Alot of sh*t was thrown with the La Manga stuff and some did stick to Dickov (no puns please) so up rooting and starting again would also have been a factor.

I think that Stuart Pearce had a lucky start as man city manager. It was just a case of send in the clowns. The novelty has worn off and he has played the 'dissapointed' with the lads card in the dressing room too many times now. He'll amount to nothing, as will man city next season if they continue signing past it players. Dickov is not a player that a club with big time ambitions signs.

They'll fail together.

I'm inclined to agree about Pearce - put bluntly I don't thinks he's bright enough to be a successful manager.

However, he's presumably brought in Dickov as a short term measure to add a bit of cover and commitment.

Still looks like a smart move for Dickov at the end of his career.

He only had himself to blame though.

Ultimately, yes...but it was stupid of the club to take that bunch to La Manga and still more stupid not to keep them on a tight leash once there.

That said Mickey coped with the after the event situation with some distinction, in my opinion.

I agree. Micky did really well throughout the whole ordeal. IMO it was the club's fault, as you say, for not ensuring that the players were behaving properly. Micky must take some blame as well, but the club deserve the most of the blame for it.

Agree. It's a sad state of affairs when a bunch of grown men need to be supervised.

But that is the way British society is going at the moment. No-one needs to think for themselves. Travel by South West Trains and they will tell what to do, where to go, what you can and cannot do and how to behave. They are just one of many examples. On the local buses you are told that we are stopping at the next stop and to mind the doors, as though I (and others) would put oneself at risk in the first place. :icon_roll

Without wishing to sound like Melton and others (you know who you are) I blame Health and Safety legislation and the need for companies to protect themselves against litigation.

Given the above, there is increasingly less need for common sense and thought nowadays.
