Dowie would have been manager and kelly would have been offered no.2. The reason Dowie went to Cov is because the takeover dragged on so long. Dowie would have waited but only on one condition. and that condition wasn't an option for milan. so dowie went to cov.

Not what I heard, is that confirmed Micky? I had heard Dowie turned down working under a Director of Football.

Don't think Hoddle could cope with "Not-Right Fortnight" very well......

It aint pretty, nobody could argue that but the only names mentioned in this thread that I think anyone can argue would be a definite improvement would be Billy Davies or George Burley as they have consistent records. I don't think its realisitic to expect either at our fair club next season.

Other than that pretty much successful manager = well backed financially.

Yes, because after all Kelly has proved very successful with his ventures into the transfer market hasn't he.

i was told (from as good as the horses mouth) that dowie wanted to come here but was held up because of the takeover. the route of all evil then got the better of him! and he went to the sky blues!

Exactly, because he's had f8ck all to spend. You pay peanuts and get monkeys!

Look I am not saying Kelly is some kind of footballing genius, my point is that the level of vitriol pointed towards Kelly I think is unreasonable. He clearly isn't a great manager but we'll probably end up somewhere around mid-table which given the financial climate he was operating in doesn't make him a terrible one either.

He could have wheeled and dealed (?) sold a player or two and got someone else in. He chose to stand pat. :icon_conf

He got Horsefield in, who is supposedly a proven striker at this level. Who should he have brought in? Anybody half decent costs serious money.

And kelly has had sweet fa off the board as well, can't compare him to hoddle, robson or keegan (who won't return to management so shouldn't be discussed). They all achieved with cash, Kelly hasn't had cash, maybe he could do the business with someone who can hit a cow's *rse with a banjo up front. Looks like he's off though.

For the record, I'd have Hoddle not so keen on Robbo but would surprised if either was here next season.

Kelly has been given money. It might not have gone on transfer fees, but it certainly went on wages, bonus payments, agents fees, appearance fees etc etc etc.
Just look at the shite he has brought in

Excuses can be found for his poor performance in the transfer market, however the tactics, attitude and application of the team is something than can never be explained away. He is not capable of being a football manager at this level and probably never wanted to be until TNBD whispered sweet salary figures in his ear.

Fact is, the players out there are all playing well below par, this has nothing to do with ****ing money for ****s sake.

His tactics have nothing to do with money, his poor motivational skills have nothing to do with money, his poor substitutions have nothing to do with money, his inability to see beyond 4-4-2, even at 2-0 down has nothing to do with money.

It's not a ****ing money problem, the bloke is an inept, incompetent prick

I initially thought he should have got the chance to spend some money. The points you raise (without the unecessary personal insults, although I understand your emotions) are very valid though, and his teams have consistently underperformed, with or without the loan signings.

it is now time for a change in the summer

I think this is a tad unfair. he doesnt come across as a prick but a smashing lad. all the rest is spot on though.

What do you think would have been a reasonable position for LCFC to finish in given the squad this season?

top half not quite playoffs but in the region of 12th-9th maybe, especialy with the way fryatt and hume ended last season seemed to be scoring alot and playing well together

Yeah I think thats reasonable too, and we aren't going to be a million miles off that. The difference in points/places between mid-table and where we will finish won't be much but they way the majority of people go on here, you would have thought RK had blown £20 million on a load of rubbish and got us relegated.
