So is keeping Kelly, any managerial appointment is a risk, however rather than appoint one of the usual suspects off the managerial merry go round, if we cannot attract a proven man then I see no reason why we shouldn't follow Sunderlands example.
Appointments like that with Roy Keane happen rarely though. I wouldn't be totally against it, but it would have to be someone who had played under good managers for long enough to learn from them.
I think Sheringham could be the best of those you mentioned. Played under Brian Clough and Alex Ferguson, and is one of the most intelligent readers of the game around. Wouldn't necessarily translate to off the field, but he'd be a good choice.
I think Winterburn and Dixon have both been out of the game long enough that they wouldn't be interested anyway. I can't imagine Les Ferdinand as a manager for some reason.
Gary Speed probably wouldn't want to do it when he's still playing first team football in the Premiership.
I like the idea of Teddy though, and I think he'd be the most likely of those to have good contacts and someone experienced to come in and help him.
