Proud of the lads today, great effort. Couldn't see the Wellens second booking challenge clearly enough, so can't comment on that. But the shift the the rest of them put in with a man down was magnificent.

Berner was excellent, Fryatt looked threatening, Waggy put himself about a bit and rarely stopped running, Hobbs value is going up with every game he plays, King very effective and Oakley was generally pretty good, though perhaps ran out of steam towards the end. And the rest weren't bad at all!

Atmosphere was a bit patchy at first but picked up and became excellent. Had a great time, one of the best 0-0 games I've seen.

Morrison's equally so. Very rarely, if ever, do I come away from a city game and thought that Hobbs or Moz had been particularly poor.

Dyer brought nothing to the game and Howard cannot play as a lone striker.

Dyer did a clearance that would have embarrassed a park player. Thankfully Newcastle missed the chance Dyer created for them. For the first part of last season Dyer was superb. However, he seems to struggle at this level and I would have rather seen Dany come on instead.

from what i could hear the crowd just ganged up (unjustly) on the ref...

Now I've calmed down a bit, perhaps!

It still galvanised our crowd and the remaining 10 players though whether the ref got it right or not.

Nobby showed some quality for the last 5 minutes or so, but cannot see him lasting more than 45 mins at the moment. Probably better to have him do the first half and see if we can get a goal or two, then bring on Danny N'G second half to put in the blistering counter-attack when they are forced to come forward and leave gaps!

I saw the second Wellens booking on the telly in the concourse at halftime and I think Routledge took a dive. Little more than a hand on his back and the lad throws himself on the floor, disgusting.

It was on the other side of the pitch from us but when the ref reached for his card the people around us assumed he was booking him for diving.

We definitely had the better first half, but I had little hope of them holding out for the full match so credit to them for not giving up. The last 15 mins was nail biting as our players looked so tired with the loss of Wellens taking its toll.

Howard was not the right person to bring on though.

Respect for the ref? Nah. Good atmosphere though, even in the West stand.

It was good to see the Newcastle crowd cheering Solano.

What a shame we wont give such a spirited performance against Doncaster, much like the Barnsley game.

Must say im very proud of the team tonight, but why is it we can only raise our game against these sides? why do we go back to total mediocrity agaist anyone below 6th position in the league?

In my opinion that's an issue which the management is completely responsible for putting right. Now that we've all seen what the team is capable of, it's surely Nigel's job to make sure they play to that standard every week. He shouldn't expect anything less.

After all, that's basically what Billy Davies is doing at Forest, and arguably what Dave Jones is doing at Cardiff, and that's the crucial difference between us and them.

I completely agree with you, He does a very important job and I think it takes a lot of discipline and talent for someone so young to anchor the midfield like he does.

I thought both King and Oakley(not biased honest!) were both superb today. They dug in and tbh you wouldn't have known we were a man short the work those pair got through.

The backline were all fantastic as well, Brown(having deserved negative comments after some games) has looked a lot more composed the last two games(no McGivern to worry about?) Hobbs threw himself everywhere. Morrison impresses me more every game he plays, and Berner, well we just look so much more comfortable with him at the back(stupid tackles aside:icon_roll)

Waghorn and Gallagher both ran their socks off, and it's a shame Fryatt didn't score after that run, if it had been Fabregas or Rooney the commentators would've been creaming themselves over that move)

As for the ref and the highlights show tonight.......:icon_roll

Wellens was lucky his first yellow wasn't a straight red, but there was no mention of the poor tackle on him earlier which we didn't even get the free kick for(Guthrie was it?) I thought his 2nd yellow was harsh, having seen the replay on tv I definitely think it was harsh but it's been coming the last few games he's played if we are honest.
They also didn't show the assualt on Waghorn which was just before Berner got his yellow, from where we sat, that looked far worse than Wellens first caution, yet whislt giving us a free kick the ref didn't even put his hand near his pocket.

Berner should've walked, the ref bottled it.
Definite penalty, ref had no excuse not being able to see it.
Never even showed you the handball from Kings header.

It pissed me off that whilst we were clearly the better side(not biased honest!) Most of the action showed Newcastle and their main and minor chances, whereas we only had a couple of main chances shown.

I'm very pleased that the attitude the team had before the Trees game has resurfaced, I think the annoyance of the fans at their view of a twattish ref helped create a good atmosphere which lifted the players into giving their all for the cause.

More of that please!!!

A match like that and Boc sneaks off early!

Boc we saw you go well before the final whistle. As a mod this is just not good enough.

I *was* there until the whistle. I just moved down so that I was amongst the first to be out. 5:20 kick-offs are not a good thing when you've got a 200-mile train journey home.

Defo, it was reckless and he was lucky to get away with a yellow

I thought his 2nd yellow was harsh, having seen the replay on tv I definitely think it was harsh

It was indeed. He either was taken out by a sniper in the stands, or Wellens had hypnotised him to collapse in a heap when ever he touched him on the shoulder.

Berner should've walked, the ref bottled it.

Agreed, we actually did well out of the ref's inconsistencies for that one.

More of that please!!!

Lots more please

Fantastic performance, deserved to win in all honesty.

It was on the other side of the pitch from us but when the ref reached for his card the people around us assumed he was booking him for diving.

I had thought that maybe their legs got tangled but there didn't seem to be much of that. first time in ages we've had a player sent off at home too.

I slammed my fist down on the chair in front of me when the ref pulled his red card out and really hurt my hand, I don't do angry very well. :icon_lol:

I think the fans didn't turn on the ref because of the red card it was just after that.

Berner was booked rightly for a foul, but Stephen Taylor produced an almost identical foul in an identical position 15 seconds earlier and we weren't even awarded a free-kick let alone Taylor getting a yellow, Newcastle won a thrown-in from it in fact. Which was ridiculous as that meant the ref knew he didn't get the ball and was therefore a blatent free-kick.
