Whether he would have got the ball is irrelevant.

I know you love your rules Jeff and the 'letter of the law', but the ref would have had to judge whether Earnshaw was looking for the Pen. The ball going out of play and him running away from goal would have gone against Earnshaw in the decision.

Don’t get to see the city much nowadays but I have to say we looked good last night, still no where near the finished article but very good none the less. Vaseel looks an excellent addition for this level and if Abe keeps turning in performances like that where he runs midfield and pulls the strings then we will struggle to hang on to him.

King looked good as well and with a bit of match sharpness Bednar should bag a few. Still not sure about Davies (never understand why dirty villa spent that much on him in the 1st place) at the back to be honest but he is okay for the championship.

If we can add consistent goalscoring from the front to that type of performance then we should be fine and should be competing near the type 8 come the end of the season.

Is there video of the muppet with his arm around Vassell's neck in the penalty area? Was it a penalty?

Cunningham's trip on Earnshaw was an accidental coming together of legs. To be a penalty the referee would have to consider it to be careless, reckless or using excessive force according to Law 12.

On the other hand, Cohen's foul on Vassall was a clear hold, a definite penalty, which the ref had a good view of. Since Cohen already had a yellow card, he could have been sent off.

Who cares if it was or it wasn't, we won.

Interesting how there are differing views on Bednar. I agree that his touch was a bit naff, personally I'm putting that down to only four league starts this season, before yesterday, and a touch of rustiness.

I thought he did really well for the goal and worked tirelessly - almost got some change out of a Camp clearance as well. Liked the way he used his body against that oaf Morgan, who was penalised almost every time he got near him. Gave Cunnigham the chance to whip in three decent free-kicks that caused them a whole world of problems.

With one cleared off the the line as well, I'm liking what I saw, especially as he will get better with game time. To describe him as 'awful' is a bit harsh, IMO.

The muppet was definitely intending to hold Darius back, but the strange conventions of 21st century footy meant he did it with his forearm not a grab and finished with a arm-waving "not me guv" gesture - equally Vassell felt the contact, which prompted his "Loyalist Militiaman at the Moment of Death" swan dive - a thing of great beauty admittedly.

I'd be delighted if more refs saw this stuff for the pantomime bad acting it is - though obviously I'd have been even more delighted if he'd given us a pen.

So what you are saying is that from now on we should call them West Bridgford Trees?? :102:

They started off in woad-wearing times north of the city at the Forest Fields recreation ground - hence the name. Personally West Bridgford Trees would be a better name IMO, and would give some support to my campaign to rename us the Leicester Raw Dykes.

I think Beaumont Fox, Cate etc might not be happy with that name:icon_bigg

Weale - 8 - two great saves. kicking poor or it would have been a nine.
Naughton 7 - solid pacey got forward, but doesn't make great final decisions - when he trusts himself to go on the outside he'll be awesome.
Davies 9 - a joke that he's in this league. Unless we flash the cash can't see him staying as one of the Prem teams should take him. Realistically Villa should have him back in their sqaud given their current run of form and inability to keep clean sheets.
Hobbs 7 - growing in confidence alongside Davies - best display this season.
Cunningham 8 - best display in a city shirt. Needs to trust Yuke to cover and get on the outside of Gallagher more often though to give him options and stop the front men being dragged wide.
Yuki - 9 STAR MAN. screened the defence like a Mikado Makalele - never stopped running, would tackle a dog if it had the ball and looked at him funny. good, simple distribution to king and wellens.
Wellens - 8 - good display but doesn't turn the screw and make very good decisions when he's in the final third he looks awkward when playing certain passes forward. If Erikkson had Mark Davies he wouldn't need Wellens. But he's a good player.
King - 8 - becoming a menace at ghosting into the opposition box and if he grows any more in confidence will get 20 goals this season. Must be a f*cking annoying player to play against. Intelligent.
Gallagher 7 - great first touch but needs to work on his finishing, maintaining a threatening position and commiting opposition players.
Vassell 7 - flashes of real menace and could have had a goal and a penalty to add to his assist. Needs to be gotten into the game more regularly. it will come.
Bednar 7 - i'm sorry to say it, but he's a better player by some distance than Howard. Acts/Thinks more quickly, gets into the box in better positions, can& will score a wider variety of goals.

Howard 7 - great to bring on as sub. very supportive to the player that he came on for. a measure of the man.
Waghorn n/a- looked happy to get on and ran around to tie up the last few mins.
Dyer 7 - better on the left. need to find a way to use him: i'd consider him for gallagher away from home with vassell pushed higher up the pitch on the right.

Wellens absolutely not. Vassell's would have been very harsh but I believe I would wanted it.

Earnies was a trip pure and simple

Talk about blue tinted specs...

The Wellens one was never a penalty in a million years.

Vassels was a very good shout and 50% of those would usually be given, he went down very easily though, which I think convinced the refs decision.

Earnshaws was not intended in any way what so ever, Cunninghams eyes never left the ball. Would have been an outrageous penalty.

Right, much to the chagrin of Blue Maniac who does so loathe me commenting on games:

Got to watch this one on a proper telly and everything and would echo much of what many of you have said.

I thought Cunningham looked tidy down the left hand side and there was a moment in the game where he gave Wellens a right bollocking, which I think is good to see from your young defenders.

Speaking of Wellens, I thought that he was superb today particularly in the final 20 minutes of the game and that cheeky nutmeg towards the end was sublime. The midfield as a unit looked very good. A far cry from the Oakley/King partnership that Sousa was trying to fob off as an actual midfield. Abe, as everyone has said, seems to be a very good player.

I'm a Gallagher fan and he has played well when I've been able to watch him in the past but I found his performance a bit frustrating today. He missed a couple of decent chances and the flow of play often slowed to a crawl when he received the ball wide. I couldn't help but think that Dyer on one wing and Vassell on the other would be almost unplayable at this level. Also, his corners were (and I assume have been) woeful.

Bednar, same as the rest of you...got beat up a bit and his first touch was poor. That said, he was probably playing against one of the most physical defenders in the league and he won't be dealing with Morgan week in, week out.

All in all, a superb performance and I'm not sure all of our players are in full gear yet (Vassell, Bednar, Hobbs) and when they hit form we'll be flying.

Oh, and for me the Vassell pen was nailed on.

Finally I was very impressed with the impact Nathan Tyson made when he came on. Blistering pace. Looks a decent player on that performance. Didn't notice much else of note from Forest, who seemed a wee bit lost.
