2-1 Leicester. Byrne, Melrose. (Alan Young (og) for them)
Showing my considerable age, I was there that day. Mindblowing, Liverpool hadn't lost at home for over two seasons I seem to recall. The promised buses to take us back to the station didn't materialise, so a friggin long escorted march back to the station instead.

85 games, IIRC.

I was there as well after being at Exeter during the week:(

Me to. Seem to recall it was a 5 O'clock train back to London from Exeter the next morning. We stayed in a night club till about 2 before being kicked out as they were closing.

I drove up in my own car and then parked in the street where some youngster immediately asked me if I'd pay him to protect my car. I didn't but the car was fine - as it always was on away trips.

Couldn't find any hoghlights from that Anfield game, but the home game is always nice to watch again.

IIRC, big Jock, with tongue firmly in cheek said we'd win the league.
we do the double over Liverpool [first team to do so for eons] and end up getting relegated.
no justice in the world.

The home game that season was one of my trips to Filbert Street, I went with a Liverpool supporting work mate. We were in the Kop and when Peake picked the ball up I could see that big gap open up in front of him and thought if he shoots he'll score. It was a good journey home, for me anyway.

Showing my considerable age - it was on my 26th Birthday - I remember listening to reports on the radio - and we were a goal down because of an early own goal - the end result was a fantastic achievement - a happy day!

It was the day I bought Talking Heads' Remain In Light (LP) and got blown away twice in a day. Happy days!

If you were to look at Soccerbase, it's pretty obvious why City won that day. Only the previous day, Liverpool had beaten Birmingham, Swindon and Portsmouth in the League Cup, scoring no fewer than 12 goals in the process. They must have been very very tired after that marathon.

Or perhaps we shouldn't rely too much on Soccerbase.

Here's reminiscing for ya. I went to a field (grammatically correct) back when Adams was manager. Stand out memories were of hundreds of terraced houses with metal grid windows, a concourse with sticky rubber flooring, a view of a roof and the back of someone's head for 90 minutes. Ticket was discounted by £2 for a slightly obstructed view....could see absolutely **** all for most of the game so not sure what the view I was meant to see was. It's a club of typically robbing scouse ****s and you couldn't pay me to visit that shit hole again. The bunch of ****s.

Plus, it's the only shitheap I've ever visited that when you're buying 4 cans of drink you have to pass them individually under a bank counter style bulletproof shield in a corner shop. I grew up in Gatesheed and was astounded at the scummyness of the place.

This is the first of six matches in seventeen days.

We cannot expect to play the same team each time from now on. So our selections must start to consider the upcoming matches as well as the current one.

We'll obviously do a total rotation against Chelsea but we should be looking to do what other Champions League sides do as well, namely to rotate a couple of players each match.

Whatever side plays against Liverpool should be a couple of players different against Brugge and so on. Ideally, you want to get to the end of September with nobody having played more than four times.
