Mahrez

There is no more evidence of a deliberate lack of effort from Mahrez than any other player last season.
I would agree up to the point of Claudio's sacking. Then everyone turned a corner except Mahrez.

Why is Mahrez singled out so much compared to his peers?
Maybe because he went from PFA Player of the Season to completely stinking the place out overnight?

Those saying that Mahrez was deliberately not trying last season.

Does this mean that you only think he's actually tried one season of his career then? As he's only had one season that's atypical from the rest.

I'd love him to still be here next season whether we get the occasional genius or the regular version.

People love a scapegoat.

The guy is still outstanding and if he does not go is still a country mile a better player than Gray

Are you talking in terms of 15/16 or 16/17?

Says a lot when BN is the voice of reason. ;)

Completely agree though.

I'd be delighted if Mahrez is still here next season, even if he doesn't really want to be. As long as it doesn't mess with squad morale which I don't think it will. I still think Mahrez is a player with his head screwed on right. He won't kick up a fuss if he's still here next season.

Maybe because after the fall of the Don, there appeared a remarkable increase in effort from all except Riyad.

That is the problem. When Mahrez the Genius is turned on it still looks effortless, so we cannot tell when he is trying or not!

I thought you were telling us that he's the greatest player ever to wear a City shirt. Apologies if I've confused you with someone else.

We all know it's because he was marked by 17 players every time he got the ball last season.

I see your Mahrez and raise you Danny Drinkwater.

Drinkwater carried an injury throughout the second half of the season but kept trying. Drinkwater was possibly our best player early in the season.

Mahrez , poty, was crap in the first half of the season and crap in the second half of the season other than in 3 matches.

All of it, he is technically gifted has vision awesome balance and is a better player than Gray in every department.

It'll be interesting to see if Gray's next 5 years are better than Mahrez last 5 years. Clearly Gray is streets ahead of Mahrez at a comparable age. How anyone can compare the poty with a first year player astounds me.

if he declared himself fit to play then you judge him on that if his injury was hampering him to the point he couldn't perform then he should have said he was injured, maybe if he and the others didn't kick off if we played something other than 442 he would have had more help in CM too

I think he's the most technically gifted player I've ever seen play for us. No more, no less.

I don't think I have ever referred to him being multi-marked. I have expressed some frustration at successive managers not shifting his position more both to help him and make it harder for the opposition.

Even if we choose to believe this, an injury doesn't account for his inability to pass a football forwards. He was in retreat almost constantly and, although I agree he started the season okay, he'd forgotten how to pass a ball by the halfway mark.

I've never understood why our wingers never swap sides during games it just keeps the defenders guessing more

Ridiculous. Of course he passed the ball forwards.

They do swap almost every game. Perhaps it confuses Mahrez too much.
