That said, I think at the moment he is the most important of our fringe players as he offers something different.

I have you about right on that one - to sell him now is plain stupid. The money is completely irrelevant

If we start to bring others in, however, then that's a different story

I'm not sure that's true with FFP. There was a lot of talk that we wouldn't be able to offer our star players bumper deals within the regulations, £10million income could be significant in what we are able to offer current players and new signings.

Though it hasn't stopped us spending so far so we are probably okay regardless.

From a business point of view it might be a consideration that he would be worth considerably less next summer after another season of irregular football.

Assuming the original £8m transfer fee was broadly correct, his current value in our books after two years of his four year his contract would be c. £4m. So we'd make a profit of £6m in regards to FPP.

Hardly to be sniffed at, but I doubt it'll make much difference overall given the larger contracts being banded about, plus the c. £8m of additional transfer fees that'll be in this season's accounts.

You articulated the sentiment that you would be happy to sell him

Hardly the same is it? If we sell Kante does that mean we're kicking him out too?

Don't forget the complex contract arrangements, City do not have to accept the offer if they believe better financial bids may be available. This saga could continue for a few more weeks yet unless of course he signs the new contract we have offered.

We have a pretty outstanding medical team, couldn't they figure out a way to shrink Gokhan Inler and send him instead?

Can we simply refuse to sell N'Golo? Isn't he under contract?

Everton are really getting out of their pram this summer. OK you've got a rich owner but so do a lot of clubs, including us. Any historical cache they had has long since ebbed away. Currently they are no bigger a club than most Premier League teams. And in the immediate term they offer far less prospects than Leicester.

It's not about that, though, is it. If it's a bigger role for Walsh and with a higher pay packet, then it will be tempting. The size of a club isn't really relevant.

Is he from up that way? Could be a reason for him to be interested beyond just money.
