Shakey says he's still hoping to bring in one or two more players this window. He doesn't say what position, but the Merc says one is expected to be CB.
Also says there could still be moves for Drinky and Mahrez but the club haven't received any acceptable offers so there's no decisions to make.

I've started to hope that Mahrez will actually stay. The days are passing without more rumours. Nine more days to go.
The possibility of getting through two whole summers since winning the title with that team and for ten of the eleven to still be with us is a remarkable achievement really.

Yep, I agree. I've been pleased with the way he's reacted. Even if it's what he should do, there are plenty of examples of players not doing this.
I just hope that, if we are to end up selling players, it's not done right at the last minute and we have replacements lined up. If players go, they go. What we don't want is to be screwed in relation to who comes in in their places.

I'd like to hope we have built up a long list of replacements, knowing that he wants out.
We need to make sure we have enough time to bring one of the replacements in, BEFORE we accept Arsenal's inevitable deadline day bid.
I've always hoped he'd stay (with the caveat that he has to want to) but as the closing of the window nears, I find myself hoping more and more that he'll be staying with us.
Would I rather him stay than us sign a centre back? (not that they're mutually exclusive) I dunno, tough call. We are in desperate need of another cb.

According to the Daily Mail (yes, I know!), talks are ongoing between us and Chelsea regarding the transfer of DD, it seems we're £10m apart on the price with Drinkwater keen on the move.

Gut feel says it's gonna happen then innit? Sadly. The clubs will find agreement on price if there's a will. Chelsea have got the sponds. Unless they're using DD as a smokescreen for another target.
Gotta say that I'm not quite sure how DD would fit into Chelsea. Other than mid week cup games maybe. Or praps a 'home grown' for UEFA purposes. He's not what I'd see as a name on their starting lineup, given their seemingly preferred style of play and shape.

Have you seen the Chelsea squad? It is paper thin. I think he'd actually do very well there linking up with Kante - he's exactly the type of player they need. Yes, he wouldn't play every game but he would add something to their squad that they haven't already got. I can see exactly why Conte would want him.

"paper thin"... no, I think that's an exaggeration. Many Prem clubs would love such paper thinness.
I accept that by their standards and aims, they feel they need bolstering but I still don't see that Drinkwater is an answer for them.

It's a bit of a business model for them. Train them up, loan them out for a fee, and then sell them on for a healthy profit.
If by any chance they get an absolute star come through the ranks, that's purely a bonus.
