I don't think it's anything to do with being captain.

The person who writes stories like this is probably someone straight out of university with no idea of Grayson's past. They have a couple of minutes to turn a quote from a club's site into a story for Sky, and assumed that because Grayson is a manager now, he was also a manager at Leicester. There's no time to check facts because they have another 30 "articles" to write before lunch. The internet is full of sites that churn out stories like that and it's making it difficult for proper journalists to get jobs when kids with no knowledge or experience can be employed on low wages to produce endless crap.
