No smoke without fire in my eyes, really can't believe that sky have reported his dismissal without some confidence in the "source". IIRC Moyes sacking was leaked in similar fashion only to be denied and within 24 hours he had gone.

IMO he is a goner just the timing, how and when announced. Absolute PR disaster.

The Guardian are reporting he was sacked but the club later retracted it.

I think the real issue is what is in the longer term interests of the club.

The club has to plan its business on the almost certain prospect of relegation. Is Pearson the best manager to take the club forward? If he is not then who may be available who is better?

The results this season are appalling - well beyond the normal criteria for saking a manager. The likely playing squad will know they are no where near good enough for the PL? Is this a good basis for carrying on as you were? Is it best to make a fresh start or is it unrealistic to hope for anything better?

Irrespective of this current little incident/ balls up, the owners have big problems and I hope that they don't opt to back out of the club by cutting their losses.

Being a loyal Grauniad reader, I can say with confidence their football coverage is not the best or well connected in the world. I'd give it more credence if Sky Sports were reporting what they say. Oh, hold on a minute...........................

Thank God he's not been sacked.

Getting rid of Pearson, especially given the potential replacements available, would be ludicrous in my eyes.

I still think we're likely have to 1 more good run before the end of the season - hopefully that lasts long enough to drag us to safety.

The Guardian is reporting that Pearson thought he'd been sacked. Clearly a complete and utter shambles at the top of the club.

According to what I was told, Marc Albrightons wife will have egg on her face as well.

This could be a clever move by the club.Get a bit of sympathy before the FA investigation.I think if the owners suspend Nige for 5 matches the FA may only add another 2 or 3.

There have been so many threads and so much confusion on this topic it is easy to miss something. It would be a shame if people missed Homer's post on the topic in the Leicester Crystal Palace thread (post 136) it is one of the best I have ever read.

I had a good view of the Pearson-McArthur incident and thought it worth only a slight mention of it in my post on the game. It seemed light hearted to me and more importantly to Alan Pardew and the referee. If Nigel had seriously tried to strangle McArthur the Palace bench would have gone berserk and Pearson would have been sent to the stand.

Perhaps the real problem lay with Match Of The Day who finding themselves with a very inept interview made far more of it than it deserved.

I think it's only fair that I speak at this stage.

Basically. I was once a sparrow, however, now I am a hawk.

I think you all know what that means. Hoping this clears this all up.

I don't think there has been much hatred for Pearson. Throughout his time with us there has been some concerns (such as his man management of some players) but he has enjoyed the support of the vast majority of fans through it all. I am pleasantly surprised that the fans are still singing his name despite our position and some debatable selections.

Personally I think he is the best option we have at the moment, but his position is probably best defined by the fact that though some were disappointed to learn of his dismissal, few were surprised.
