Steven - you are generally feet on the ground sensible. No p-ss take.

But what on earth makes you think that the specific circumstances of Leicester City Football Club (not Ipswich Town FC) would make it any more attractive to a potential buyer than last time....when Milan was proved to be the only serious interested party once the sort of feeble kites flown by the FT etc were found to be non-viable?

The reason why I say what I do is that MM was the first in the wave having been first contacted about this well over a year ago. The economics of the PL also play a part where even the worst side will get income some £50 - £70 million over two years or so:

Goal.com

Financially there is also a paycheque for the winners of unprecedented proportions.

The Premiership has become he world's richest league, and promotion to it could mean as much as £60 million to the clubs who go up and stay up - including £50 million linked to a new TV deal - according to calculations made by accountancy firm Deloitte & Touche.

The three promoted teams are guaranteed at least £35 million in extra revenue, Deloitte said.

And if teams are subsequently relegated they will still get "parachute payments" of £20 million over the next two seasons.

Given that financial background it makes sense for someone economically to take a Club like City, Brum, WBA, Derby (you fill in the rest) if they can be bought for a reasonable sum and then spend some more to take the risk that they might get into the PL. After all the wage bill is much smaller in the Fizzy. If I had a spare £20 million then I would take that risk. :icon_bigg :icon_wink

Why shouldn't Ipswich be compared to us?

How was MM proved to be the only serious interested party (other than by the Mockery and the Blue Mongies who saw that pompey were in the Prem)?

That's made me feel better. Well Let's hope that you have accrued that amount before the situation (potentially) arises.

1. I don't have to hand a spreadsheet setting out the financial status of Ipswich. So I wouldn't be able to make comparisons from any base line. The main similarities are that LCFC & ITFC are clubs of similar size and potential - but I don't know whether they are in deep hock like we are - and I do know that they are starting from having better footballers - the comparative results advise me of that. However, I don't know the current financial baselines for either club.

2. My version of history is slightly different. My recollection is that the misguided or misguiders like the FT kept inferring that there might be other serious parties.......but once they realised that MM was the only one (you will recall the former Board effective mandate for MM - at virtually any i.e. almost no price) - then the FT etc soon fell into line.

Surely our potential fan base is far larger what with us being a major city and them being predominately rural.

Oh for Lennie Glover and Keith Weller

If Keith Weller was playing now he would be with one of the big four Premiership clubs. When Leicester went up they bought Sammels, Birchenall, Weller and (a little later) Frank Worthington. I don't think that if we go up with Milan that even his millions will be able to afford players that good.

Leicester have the fan base, there is no doubt about that, compared to clubs such as Ipswich - Thats fair to say, but on the otherhand Ipswich have the better playing squad.
You can have all the facilities and fans in the world, we may well have the better stadium and we may be able to fill it - but thats all we really have right now - a ''nice'' ground with some fans and a pitch...and nothing to grace it.:icon_conf

This is tantalizing. How close are you - half way there, three quarters. You mention £20 million being spare. Can we take it you already have £20 million that is busy.

I've just gone to heaven!

The Bloomfield years were what really got me into Leicester in a big way.

Brum - unable to sell the club for over a year despite the joint owners being desperate to get rid.

WBA - despite clear statements declaring the club up for offers not one firm bid has been received during the summer or season so far.

I don't understand this arguement. There are way more clubs being bought and sold now than ten years ago, fact. The massive cash bonanza that is the modern Premier league has made a medium-sized club in the Championship, with the potential to get promoted, a very attractive business proposition. I don't get how you could look at it any other way.

Yes Bob - understood.

I remain in a gloomy mood - loads of work, Monday am etc - our continuing appalling results but I don't think I have got this wrong.

Typical of football supporters, lots of our fans have an unrealistic inflated idea of where we are and what we are. If Milan was to go I am sure that there would be a mega financial crisis and the threads here would be largely about us being right in the financial sh-t.

Of course, we have potential - but the odds for us achieving the promised land of the Premiership even for one cash rich but results traumatic season are not good for the forseeable future. In these circs I can't see it being easy for the selling on of the club. We would be back to something like the FT putting out the begging bowls and running raffles for Xmas cakes.

To be honest - I think Ian Holloway provides good entertainment with his comments. However, I do wonder how anyone who is always so loose to OTT with his statements can maintain longer term credibility.

I am quite signed up to the view that he was the best available appointment and that it was a decent move both for him and the club.....but I question whether ultimately his style might get in the way of what he is trying to achieve.
