Dont be silly, two years running in the play offs, with a side that at best is mid size, nowhere near the budget available to many of the managers at that level, average attendences of circa 14k and having to sell a number of the better players, granted they failed at the play off stage, but bearing in mind what we, Leeds and Wolves have achieved in those 2 seasons, aided by parachute payments and a squad with premiership experience then I think he can be proud of his achievements.

I'm sure he can be very proud.. But surely we want Kelly to do better.. not just get us into the playoffs and lose?

i think getting anywhere near the play-offs this season would be a massive achievment.

Should we not feature in them this season, I think many many questions will need answering. Fans will vote with their feet....

Success is relative depending on the club, for a club like PNE reaching the play offs 2 seasons in a row would be seen as an excellent achievement, for a club who is punching above it's weight, bear in mind that little more than 5 seasons ago, North End had spent the previous 20 or more years marooned in the bottom 2 divisions. Expectations at a club such as ours will be higher, we have recent history of premiership top half finishes, league cup wins and the occasional european escapade, all in the last decade.

Over the last 2 seasons, based on our recent history and our budget, play offs was the minimum expectation.

There is no way anybody can dismiss Davies' achievements, however I would agree that given direct comparison's at both clubs, that Kelly is at a club where expectation and potential far outweigh what can be achieved at Deepdale. Hence why Davies has opted to move on and join a club that is very similar to us.

If we don't get to the Play Offs half of the 'fans' will be wanting Kelly out you mark my words...

Whilst, we should have ambitions of reaching the play offs, after all PNE and Watford both proved what can be done with good organisation, I think a top ten finish and the signs of improvement would be accepted by most. However I do believe it must be a season where we consistently are up and around the top half, not a season where we are floundering in the bottom half but then have a decent run in the last 6 -8 games that means we sneak into the top half.

Fair enough

2000-2001 they finished 4th.. So all Billy did was keep them there? I guess that's fairly successful

I'm just being picky.. I think he's a good manager, but like you also said, our expectations are higher than what he's achieved so far.
