They can still dangle the carrot of Europe though and if I were Nugent, I'd be quite realistic and realise that this may be my only opportunity to play on that stage.

I'm not saying that this is the crux of the story but if Celtic were to come in for Nugent, I think he'd quite possibly put in a transfer request
It's not much of a carrot when they rarely get past the qualifying rounds. If someone chopped the end off a carrot and offered it to me on the condition that I move to Scotland, I'd tell them to get ****ed.

Holloway ?

Ian Holloway ?

First Hughes, McLeish and McLaren, and now Ian feckin Holloway ?

You've all gone stark staring bonkers, the lot of you

He's got a better CV than Pearson. Ok yes he took us down but was it entirely his fault, was it hell. He's a much better manager than Pearson in my opinion and he's learned from his mistakes....has Pearson? He wouldn't be my first choice but I don't think it would be a bad appointment. Come tonight he may well have reached his third play off final in succession.

Really? When it really mattered it was all in their own hands, at home against a team with nothing left to play for and they blew it big time.

and on that basis you're happy to discount the previous run of games where they climbed from fighting relegation to being serious play off contenders? He'll get them in the top 6 next season easily.

When it came to the crunch, they froze, bottled it, screwed it up big time.

Doesn't matter what went on for them in the run up, when it mattered they pissed it up against a wall.

Is that really the managers fault?

Okj and when they finish above us next season you can continue holding onto that argument. Surely on that basis it's Pearson's fault that we finished 6th instead of 2nd, when we went on that relegation run of form? Who's to say it was Freedman's fault and not the players for pissing it up the wall? did he make any shocking tactical decisions or did the players just choke on the final day?

Your inability to see a good manager on the basis of one game is laughable.

It's a very difficult question to answer when we don't know the state of mind of the contenders. There are several out of work managers that would, potentially, be a much better bet than giving NP yet another chance. The very best we'd achieve under NP next season is 'same again' and we ought to be aiming for better. NPs had his chance. I think we've only ever given Pleat an equivalent amount of time to do nothing.

My obvious first choice is MON. If he's got a desire to do the job then it's a no-brainer.
Secondly, I'd love us to try Di Matteo. If he's interested and keen, it would be a great appointment.

Next would be a list of out of work managers that 'could' do a terrific job, it depends on where they're at career, passion, attitude wise. These would include people like McClaren (a very capable and forward-thinking club manager who maybe perfect for us or terrible depending on various factors), Coyle (excellent in this league and initially with Bolton in the Prem, could be perfect choice, could be a busted flush), Hughes (has been a great manager with Wales and Blackburn but a shocker at QPR) or even McCleish (excellent job at Birmingham and Rangers, less so elsewhere).

Beyond this list, I'd consider Jackett as an interesting candidate. I'd also consider approaching Reading to see if we could sneak Adkins away. Maybe even Warnock for a season would be worth a shot, with someone alongside him like Steve Kean. The options are considerable.

With the exception of Jackett, everyone on this list has already achieved more than NP is ever likely to do in my opinion. I don't think Lennon myself, but I understand those that do.

This has got to be a troll. Even taking into account the usual tripe you spout on this forum, this is a new level.

For some Twattish reason I am looking forward to the comings and goings of the pre-season.

Whatever happens I think the club should make it clear what the intended plan is, Is he staying or going, either way we can focus soley on the future.

The sentence you refer to is "Lennon was at Leicester’s game yesterday to watch the likes of ex-England striker David Nugent, who scored in his side’s 3-1 defeat." You've taken this to mean "Nugent is off to Celtic", ignoring the rest of the story, even the preceding sentence: "Parkhead manager Lennon, who won two League Cups as a City player, will figure prominently in their plans for Pearson’s replacement."

I would suggest it's far more likely we'll take their manager than they take any of our key players. Celtic may be champions but they're still an SPL club. They're the biggest club in Scotland. That's like being the world's tallest dwarf.

With respect I disagree both reasons are speculation...
It's a far better story for The Sun to have Lennon leaving than have him scouting Championship players...
Didnt we lose a manager once to Celtic when we were in The Prem who also took our best player with him...

Sounds familiar.

Ian fecking Holloway!?!? Lunacy of the highest order.

He may be Ok for a small club punching well above their weight but have you not seen how poor Palace have been!? They've been one of the only teams to be worse than us in the second half of the season.

Then there is also the very small fact he got us relegated to the third tier for our one and only season there when we were much higher when he took over.

I was fairly relaxed after yesterday's trauma but suggesting Ian fecking Holloway has got me as pissed off as yesterday afternoon at about 1415. They guys a clown, overrated as he makes simple people laugh in his interviews and was our worst manager in the past 25 years.

Why the **** would we want to go back to that!?!
