Puel out

There is no cut off but it is usually better to consider recent finishes when talking about our expectations, and not basing them on some select history 50+years ago.

And if you actually think he didn't want to finish as high as possible last season, it just shows how ludicrous the general opinion on here is.

As ludicrous as saying it's our second highest finish when it's obviously not?

I choose to believe what Puel said last season when he believed we weren't ready as a team and that he thought we had to play shit to get used to his system. That was actually said. I also choose to believe stuff actually existed before *insert date here*.

Can you remember us finishing higher than 7th in the top league then?

Puel never said 'we had to play shit to get used to his system'?? That is laughable you could even think this, let alone actually post it.

He was probably right in saying Europe this season would have probably been too early for us. This season has shown that our starting 11 is lacking in some areas let alone our back up so adding European football into the mix this season too, really wouldn't have helped us. Look at how well Burnley have done for getting into Europe.

What he has come out and said in that article is pretty much bang on the money but no one here really likes to admit it.

West Ham, Wolves & Everton have all spent much more than us this season, we are above them but their managers aren't getting critised for doing less than Puel.

Finish 7th would be very good indeed. Our title win was a freak. Without genuinely loaded all money is pocket money owners, or shifting the club to London, we aren’t breaching the top six. So Puel is right on that.

The problem I have isn’t our league position. It’s the crap football. I’m bored at matches. I’d like both a good league position and entertaining football. But I’d sacrifice a few league positions for a bit of fun.

No. I also can't remember Liverpool winning the league or forest winning anything....never happened then. There s loads of shit I'm too young to remember but they still happened.

And you are the exact sort of person who would rubbish fans of those clubs for expecting them to challenge for top league titles now based on successes so long ago.

Forest fans would be laughed at for expecting to win leagues and European cups now as they have been no where near recently but our fans our expecting us to be challenging the top 6 when we haven't done this for even longer bar one exceptional season that is unlikely to be repeated by anyone ever again.

I also never said it didn't happen, this is further nonsense from yourself, but I'm saying it is a bit silly to judge our current expectations on results 50 years ago.

Who is going on about expectations? Glad you seem to know me so well. You said it would be our second highest finish, it wouldn't be. I can't remember Blackburn winning the Prem but can remember the season after when they were defending champions...do I count that win or not?

Well people appear upset at Puel for him saying it is not possible for us to finish higher than 7th.

They all count but again, it would be moronic for Blackburn fans to get upset if their manager came out and said it is not possible to break into the top 6.

Almost as moronic as most of the reasoning on here.

No, people (me included) aren't saying that at all, as well you know. Stop making things up (yet again)

We are upset because he is saying it is not at all possible for us to compete with Wolves, West Ham or Everton

If he accepts that we can’t finish above 7th then the least he can do is to make sure we have a couple of decent cup runs. His arrogance has deprived us of that. It may well go on to deprive us of a 7th place finish.

Would it not be easier to just admit you didn't know about our second highest finish than drag this shit out any longer?

Haha! The debate started from Puel's quote saying it is not possible to be higher than 7th this year and many expressed this being a defeatist attitude and being not up to the job.

Ironically, the only one making stuff up if yourself '(yet again)' as Puel didn't say we can't compete with Everton, West Ham & Wolves on the field but that they have spent considerably more than us but our fans expect us to do better than them.

Ranieri never came in and said he would win the league for us. In fact he very famously never publically put any pressure on the players to do it until the last 3-4 games of the season after CL was secured. He was constantly saying 40-points was the target or just one more than last season.

If Puel had come out and said we should be top 6 or higher now then you lot would tear him to pieces for it and you know it.

Re-reads - I wish someone with a different opinion to me would shut up.

Puel's statement was bang on, we just need to get behind the team and project so we can push on this year to give us the best possible platform to build even further next season.

Of course that's what I meant. Rather than you saying something false then trying to make it true through some odd logic.

Or he's saying we can't afford to buy top players at their peak but we have to buy younger prospects and try to develop them into top players ourselves?

Even if your scenario was the case, how would it be Puel's fault and surely it would make his job of breaking into the top 6 even harder?

Did I say it was Puels fault? Give it a rest towelie.

I didn’t even say the approach was a bad thing.

So why do you think Puel is not ambitious enough when he says this is the best we can do this year and you agree it is an acceptable achievement this year?

My opinion is that trying to win stuff should always be the ambition. For a club like ours being safe in the league and trying to win a cup is worth a lot more than being the best of the rest in the league. Puel's not in a minority of managers who aren't bothered by trophies though which is sad.
