My point is that we HAD a proven striker in David Connolly, and now we don't. I'm not demanding that the club go out and sign a proven goalscorer, I had just hoped they would try to keep hold of the ones they already have.:(

BUt he obviously WANTS to go or he will turn them down.Every player has a price and IMO 2 Million for DC is a good price. He was hardly 'Proven' for us.

Redditch, as far as the bookies are concerned, personally, I couldn't give a t#ss. Last season they had us as favourites to romp the division, look where we finished. If they have as certs to go down, then maybe we will go up.......
Who knows.....
1 thing I do know, that if DC goes City will still be here tomorrow and I'll still be supporting them. :icon_cool

That makes up for the Hughes comment mate. You're right. That puts things into a better perspective!

Paul Dickov scored 15 goals in a season for Man City in what is now league one.
So he was as 'proven' as Hume.

Sky are reporting that the Connolly fee is £2 million up front, plus up to a million more based on appearances and goals.

I think that everyone accepts that the Connolly deal is excellent financial business and just shows that the demand side of the market can be stretched if there is a desparate buyer around.

Hume may prove to be a great success - but there is saying in football which is 'buy lower division players and that's where you finish up'. Of course, MON proved that this need not be the case. I hope the same is true of CL - and the jury is still out on that one.

I'm sorry but we are now in a worse off position this afternoon than this morning in terms of striking options! You can look at it from any angle you want but we have taken a step back IMO!

The clock is ticking!

Yes - but the point of today's business was not to improve our striking options. It was to put some money in the bank within a context where attendances are below those in the season's business plan.

If that is the case then it will be counter productive. How big were Sheff Weds crowds in Div 1. ;)

Exactly, how are the coffers going to be doing if we fail to score goals and get relegated. We aren't 'too big' to go down. No one is!

Steven, Silver Fox et all, stop beating yourselves up. It is not the end of the world.:icon_cry:

So DC has gone :102: so what........

Give it a few weeks and we'll be saying "David who?" :icon_cool

I would have thought that the club is anticipating avoiding relegation this season. I agree that the chances of relegation are greater today than they were yesterday. However, you know as well as me that the club came out of administration without any solid financial backing. Promotion was a bonus but now we are coming to the end of the parachoute monies and everyone knows that there is an air of pessimism around The Walkers following what is a poor start to the season by any standards with a perception of the club already slipping adrift from a play offs contention.

Now all that pessimism may be irrational and unjustified - but it does impact on the club's financial dealing. For instance, would Connolly have been sold if we were top of the league? I don't think so. The club would have said (like Bradford over Windass )- 'we are not going to lose our key goal scorer'

Totally agree! I could not see Connolly getting a hatful of goals this season based on his lacklustre performances in the last two games ( and yes, I do know he was coming back fron injury ). Financially, i do not think the club had a choice, and on top of that, what is the point of keeping an unhappy player who wants to have a go at the top flight ( and which may well be his last chance ).

But we should have locked him a Room until Midnight Sharapova...now he's gone we will never score another Goal and be in the Conference by Christmas:icon_cry:
