Rodgers future...

You never know what's around the corner.

All starting to feel like the end of a cycle to me:

- Realistically Evans, Kasper and Vardy will have the lengths of their current contracts and then will likely look at retirement/a last pay day

- Tielemans, Soyuncu, Ricardo all appear to be winding down their contracts and probably will move on in the summer

- Ndidi and Fofana are world class talents who will be heavily recruited in the next year. To a lesser extent Barnes and Justin too.

- A highly regarded manager constantly linked with bigger jobs (and one we know is extremely ambitious)

more broadly we have some really awkward contract situations all coming to a head concurrently.

It’s not doom and gloom, but it’s going to be a real period of change over the next year. There is going to be a massive amount of turnover soon and recruitment will be absolutely critical both any the player and coaching level.

It’s a bold time to be chucking down 100m on a stadium expansion

I agree. Except to say that the stadium development will be far more than £100m. I'd guess nearer to £250m.

The main concern I have about the squad refresh over the next year or two is having Congerton running it. One advantage of BR going would be getting a quality head of recruitment in.

We'll have limited funds to spend whilst the stadium is being developed and whoever does the deals will need to be excellent or we could end up in a downward spiral.

I posted similar a few weeks ago, in this thread:

He might also be thinking stuff like:
Youri likely to leave next summer
Vardy won't last forever
Kasper will need replacing at some point
Cags only has one year left on his contract after this season
Evans seems to be struggling to get fit these days
Etc, etc

There is a fair amount of work to be done over the next couple of years and, if some of the signings that have been made with a bit of futureproofing don't work out (Daka, Soumare, for example), he might find himself under a lot more pressure than he is at the moment.

The appeal of a **** ton of money (his contract and spending money) and a bit of time afforded to him, in that people will say he's got a lot of work to do to turn them round, will be pretty appealing, I'd imagine.

Recent recruitment gives me some pause for concern. There’s some some stinking signings over the last year or so.

Our attempts to replace key players like Fuchs and Morgan certainly look to have failed. Perez is “ok” at best. Lookman is probably the same. Praet has already been shuffled off. Not to say we haven’t had some wins (Castagne, Fofana and Justin most prominently) but our success rate isn’t exactly stellar.

A lot rests on the shoulders of Soumare and Daka being successful signings along with our ability to retain Ndidi, Barnes, Maddison, and Fofana amongst others.

It also feels like we should be active in January.

I agree with all those points.

But at the same time you could've made a similar post at many points over the last 5 years, and we've kept going.

So who knows.

The rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated.

I think the squad we have now is the absolute best we’ve ever had. We should be in contention to win things this year. We still are.

He's off then.

No "I'm Leicester manager and intend to continue to be so going forward as I've a contract here jntil 2025" like he said regarding Newcastle speculation.

I'm surprised this thread isn't garnering more activity. Are we all nervously waiting? In denial and hoping he doesn't go? Worried? Or simply not bothered until it's official?

About the sort of reply you'd expect really. Respectful etc. Got to say it's an odd feeling, he's got the best win ratio of any Leicester manager ever, at the highest level and yet very few are actually that bothered if he moves on. Largely because of this season being pretty underwhelming no doubt....

I'd be devastated if he left. Another really really important few seasons. Players retiring, others maybe moving on, top manager leaving, new stadium size, it could all go horribly wrong or, with the right new manager appointment ad recruitment, be another golden era.

Honestly, I'll be happy to support the club if we went back to being a yo-yo or championship team. I don't think we will ever top winning the league and the FA cup and we are living in an age where the model of stable small investment and growing the club slowly can only last for so long.

So you have mentioned a stellar first team there. Just a really good second XI to go with them!

Seen enough now to believe we aren’t likely to turn this around under Rodgers. At least not this season - midtable at best. He’s had multiple international breaks and plenty of glaring areas that should be easy to improve on (set pieces).

Our work rate is down, our pace of play is slow, we seem to be constantly managing an injury crisis and our tactical approach is becoming increasingly haphazard.

Don’t forget he is one of the highest paid managers in the league, he’s got a state of the art training ground at his disposal, and the best squad we’ve ever assembled. He is underperforming.

As I’ve said before if this season is lost, next season will sweep in enormous changes in the squad.

All things being equal a fresh set of eyes and mindset would benefit the club.

Not calling for his head, but if Man Utd are serious we should facilitate that move.

I agree. Every word.
