I typed the post below in the pre-match thread but as it was the tail-end of the thread it never got answered. It may be that the answer is so simple that in asking the question I am showing my ignorance of the game but few will be surprised at that.

As someone whose understanding of football is stuck in the days of Stanley Matthews I am frequently confused by 21st Century football terminology.
Now Sven keeps refering to "winning the second ball". What is the second ball? Presumably there are first balls but are there third balls or is it all a load of balls.

At the risk of being lampooned for offering a serious answer, (why else would you repeat the question?), I have always considered the 'second ball' to be the one that is up for grabs when for instance a goal kick is headed down, or a is cross into the box is headed out by a defender.

Do you think my answer wasn't serious?

Apologies Jeff. I mis-read your answer. I have gotten used to people using the word 'loose' when they meant 'lose' and the 'Pedant Police' not picking them up for it!

Before composing myself for my thoughts on the game

How did Joe Garner stay on the pitch? Virtually went to attack Naughton for a nothing challenge but his team-mate stopped him short of hitting Naughton. Then followed it up with a blatant handball. One yellow.

Excellent result. I'm enjoying imagining the good moods of our travelling supporters exiting the ground; it will be a light-hearted journey home :)

Not for one fan; apparently injured falling several feet from the area above one of the exits during the celebrations for the third. :icon_sad:

I am pleased with the result and the overall performance today. Thought the sandpit would cause us more trouble than it did!

It was nice and quiet, and I was back home for just after 7pm.

For the benefit of likely attendees/morons at our next home match, my ratings for Scunny are as follows:

Ricardo - 2
Everyone else - 9

Surely Ricardo should be at the most 0?:icon_roll

I wonder if Vitor/Ricardo playing together helped today?

I'm a fan of Vitor (even more after today!) so hopefully it's good enough reason to keep him in ;)

Yuki (with translator) being interviewed now

I have not rated Vitor very highly in the past ranking him below Hobbs and Morrison (who?) but I would guess from his two goals he played well today. Can someone who was actually at the match confirm this?

Yes, I think him being there in front of Ricardo gave the goalie a lot more confidence.
Ricardo certainly did nothing wrong today, though the stupid old women behind me were berating him constantly throughout the game.:icon_roll

Vitor had a very good game, and imo was our best player on the pitch.

Whether Naughton should've been booked or not, the fact that Garner went for him, swinging his arm towards him, imo meant he should've saw red.
But then again, after scrolling back through the text commentary(yes, sad I know) and seeing how many fouls Lee Milar gave away(3 in less than 4 minutes) I'm bemused at how only one Scunny player got booked.

As for the game... thought we handled the crappy pitch well, and deserved our halftime lead. Hung on for a dodgy first 15 mins of the second half-thanks to the lino flagging for offside after the ref awarded a penalty- and we were full value for the 3-0 win at the final whistle.

Re: the lad who was taken to hospital with serious head injuries-Obviously I hope he recovers quickly, but tbh, trying to stand on the metal railing wasn't exactly the smartest thing to do was it?

Sounds like Gallagher was influential, was he the difference today? Tough to gauge having not seen the game.. surely the the midfield has benefited from not playing Oakley with Abe.

Can't help but feel that this lineup would have at least drawn at QPR and beaten Norwich..

Sven don't tinker, instead read this forum (the Vitor call was:038:)

imo Gallagher shouldn't have been dropped on tuesday, playing that system with no wingers didn't make any sense to me at all.

He played well, as did Vassell.
King looked a lot more involved than he has for a fair few games, if I'm being uber-harsh probably since Man City, but all players suffer a dip in form, and this season he has played very well for most of it, so it's good to see him being back to that standard.

Very enjoyable away day. Yuki, Vassell & Vitor the best players for me, though they all played decent.

Gallagher our top assister and second top scorer now. Just shows what a good player he has become for us, in comparison to the bit part player last season.

Thank you Mike and Jeff. It was a serious question which has been clearly answered.

Bearing in mind Oakley wasn't playing(as I'm accused of only taking pics of him by lots of my footie mates pffft) I managed 122 today!:icon_eek:

Even more importantly, having the camera over 2 years and I've finally figured out how to use the multiple photo thingy properly in the past couple of weeks......:icon_roll

Anyhoo, for the most part, some decent photos amongst that lot!

Phhht! This time last year he'd bagged a hat trick against Scunny. Only three assists yesterday - he's losing it.

Fantastics hat trick too. Free kick, open play and a backwards header if I'm not wrong? I took an american to that game and had to warn him it might be shit. How wrong I was! :038:
