Me, contrary? Yes, probably. But is he really Irish? Does the location of an ancestor's birth really determine your nationality? I'm not sure it does. How far do you go back to determine what nationalities you can claim to be?

Not any more. If you have lived in a country continuously for two years, you can now qualify to play for that country.

That's not how I read the rules.

The two year rule only applies to players who hold nationality for a country, but they weren't born there and don't have a parent/grandparent from that country.


If a player doesn't qualify under the above rules, they must have been resident in the country for five years, after reaching the age of 18.
