Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded spring/summer 2019 rumours thread.

Yeah, I was very happy a few weeks ago. Perez And Tielemans are excellent signings.

Does feel like we've missed an opportunity to really go for it. Signing a top class winger and central defender that would walk straight into the side would be amazing. But agree - it's probably not going to happen now.

That said, other than Arsenal and Spurs I don't think teams have improved that much. Chelsea will struggle to get into the top 4. Man U are Man U. Liverpools main players have been away all summer.
I think we're still looking good for a push to Europe.

I'm more concerned at the complete lack of players moving out of the club.

Astonished in fact

I'm calling it with 5 hours to go.

Meh window. Our rivals have mostly done better than us. We've certainly not advanced in comparison to the sides above and around us.

Congerton out.
Panic mode engaged. Brown Alert. Won't somebody think of the children? Etc, etc....

Tielemens, Perez, Justin, Hirst and Praet (tbc) in. Maguire out for what you keep telling us is a brilliant deal, bringing £80m into the club and a move you assure us we don't need to replace. Still 5 hours to get deals over the line but yeah, time to get Congerton out and declare this window another duff one.

No ****er wants them, that's the problem. Who's going to take James with his injury record or Silva & Slimani on their ridiculous wages? We are reaping what we badly sowed unfortunately.

Thought James had offers from the Championship

The media are suggesting that we're done.

A net spend of zero over the last three windows doesn't imply ambition.

We needed to add goals and I don't think we have really. Any improvement will be reliant on Rodgers getting previous underachievers to overachieve.

I was expecting better.

Done on the basis that Praet will be confirmed? Or not even Praet?

On Strikers everyone seems to be forgotten that Demerai is the future in that position.

When you consider that we are building one of Europe's finest training facilities and potentially expanding the stadium, it seems a measured and realistic approach to signings to me.

I think we have managed to mostly improve our squad to the point where the new style of play may actually stick, without spending loads of dosh that we simply don't have.

Pretty decent really.

I couldn't care less what our net spend is. That's got nothing to do with ambition. We spent **** all to win the league in comparison to the modern market.

I wanted another striker in to be fair so I agree with you on that but I'm assuming either Rodgers sees something in Iheanacho that we haven't yet, which seems implausible or he feels Perez will give us a fair few goals this season which is plausible. All in all, if Praet comes in along with another defender, it'll be a pretty successful window as far as I'm concerned. If we fail to replace Maguire as best we can, that'll be a worry for me.

Absolutely. It's a very sensible and structured plan.

Perez adds goals. Tielemans too.

Praet looks a canny bit of business.

We’ve prepared to lose our two biggest assets next year with Justin and Praet signings.

I’ll be a bit disappointed if we don’t actually dig into our pockets, but we have done alright.

I also think too many signing can cause its own set of problems. Let see how Everton and Arsenal get on.

As for outgoings, the priorities there are Amartey, King and James as they are more likely to need to move today. Hardly a disaster if we don’t ship those three out.

If we can’t move Silva and Slimani by the end of the month, that’ll be a concern.

I don't want to get negative about the business the club has done.
We pre-empted Maguire's exit and the requirement for centrebacks by putting Morgan on a 1 year extension and spending £35-£40m on two young international centrebacks last season who have developed further since then. They need to be backed.
We saw the dearth of creative and mobile midfielders and have bought in Tielemans and Praet as well as giving Choudhury great chances to develop alongside Ndidi. Our midfield is now one of the best in the league.
We have bought Barnes back to the club to add to Gray and Albrighton as wide options. Yes. We could have gone balls out and spent £40m on a steallar wide attacker, but those three are very very strong options who have shown they can scare Prem defences between them.
I truly believe that Rodgers thinks he can blow wind into the Iheanacho's sails and get him back to being a dangerous striking option to challenge Vardy.
His real task is Gray. If he can get him to realise his famous potential then we will have the equivalent of that £40m signing on our hands.

Ghezzal, Silva, James, Diabate etc can go

I'm massively undecided on Slimani. He can't let him leave until we have a Plan B style striker in the club.

**** off with your reasoned post.

This has to be the season that Gray kicks on. At the moment I would say he's barley developed as a player since we signed him. I hope he's had a good pre season, knuckled down and worked hard to improve his strength and stamina.

If it's quickly apparent that those things haven't happened, we should start work on moving him on in January. He's the kind of signing that one of the clubs fighting relegation would probably be pleased to sign and likely at £15m+ given his age and potential.

Good post.

But if this `His real task is Gray. If he can get him to realise his famous potential then we will have the equivalent of that £40m signing on our hands. ` ever happens then I will eat my hat. He's just not got a football mind.
