Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded summer 2021 rumours thread

As well as De Vrij, we're now being linked with Brozovic from Inter. Which makes no sense, because we're heavily fitted out with centre mids already.

Can someone tell me why people find it endlessly amusing to say a big player is on his way to e.g Palace, Yeovil, Accrington Stanley? I don't remember laughing at it the last 60,000 times I've heard it.

More random noise.

Well that's just a load of cow poo I mean how desperate can teamtalk be in making shit up, Maddison seen buying a red polo shirt for his nephews birthday, Arsenal play in red so it means Maddison is moving to Arsenal for 50p as that's what Arsenal can afford and Leicester being a charity have accepted it. Ffs

That's why I'd have Tarkowski.

It's a good signing for now, but also succession planning.

As good as we are with succession planning for our young stars, we're not so good at doing with our experienced pros but it's vitally important.

Evans has only got a year or two left - maybe less if these injuries don't go away. Tarkowski would be a good replacement for his experience and leadership in our back line.
He's 29 in a couple of months. Good player but for what Burnley will want from us, I'd rather us find someone 26/27, just a tad bit younger so we can get a few more years for our buck or (inevitably) sell him for thrice the amount we signed him.

Burnley may be a bit less stubborn now as they will lose him for nowt next summer but I like the sound of bringing in Clement Lenglet in from Barca. The fee might be reasonable, he's at a good age and strikes me as the sort of player we'd be interested in. Quality player who's stock has fallen who we may be able to improve again. He's earning as much as our top earners though so not sure if it'd upset the applecart if he came in earning that much without having had to earn it...

If we sign De Vrij and Brozovic (the latter i'm a bit sceptical about) it would constitute an unbelievable window.
We obviously would take a Serie A winning centre half if they are available. We also have more than enough games (nearly 70 if we go deep in the cups) to acommodate another midfielder, particularly if Hamza, Mendy and Ghezzal leave the club as seems likely.

I would be concerned that this move would mean the end for one of Maddison or Tielemans - but i wouldn't be surprised if we have a gentlemans agreement with Tielemans that he can leave for a reasonable amount after 1 more year to get us into the Champions League.

In the absence of a mahrez style right winger being available i think we might be about to see a different leicester where we have massive strength in a 3 in midfield and then get the fullbacks and inside forwards (barnes, daka, iheanacho) causing danger.

Isn't Lenglet injured?

I'm just using him as an example of the calibre of player we should probably be looking at either way. Stefan De Vrij would be a great addition again if that were possible. Maybe that plus a cheaper option like Gary Cahill who still has that top level experience. IMO, we need two and Cahill would be a cheap, good quality short term option.

If we got De Vrij then i don't think we would get in another. We would have Amartey in reserve and Evans to be managed for important or Europa games (probably) until Wesley comes back.

McGrath was bang on about our deals earlier in the window. Looking increasingly likely that Vestergaard is the one.

Leicester have held talks with Southampton to sign Jannik Vestergaard as they attempt to bolster their injury-hit defence for the start of the Premier League campaign.

The Saints centre-back is among their top choices, with Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans ruled out for the start of the season.

Brendan Rodgers previously looked at the Denmark international two seasons ago but a £25 million move could not be struck. He is expected to be available for a lower fee as he has one season left on his contract at St Mary’s, where he has been for three years after arriving from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Fofana has a medial ligament injury to his knee which will rule him out for the rest of the year, while Evans is sidelined until at least September with a foot problem.

Leicester’s shortage of centre-backs has brought the likes of Schalke’s Ozan Kabak, on loan at Liverpool last season, and Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu to the table as defenders currently on the market who could provide cover.

Vestergaard has also been on West Ham’s radar but their No1 choice for a centre-back has been Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenković and they are working torwards signing the Serbian international.

Southampton ideally want to keep Vestergaard, who has been a regular under Ralph Hasenhuttl. The 29 year-old went to the European Championship with Denmark and reached the semi-finals where they lost to England. With his contract expiring in 10 months, his club also know they risk losing him for free at the end of the campaign.
