Very true - and so it should be.
But the important point here is that Milan Mandaric very clearly said that he wanted his new manager in the first week of June; quickly changed it to the second week; and yet it seems that things are not yet settled with the third week underway.
It's not yet clear though what the final decision will be - we might well see an appointment in the next few days - but how long will it last with this kind of beginning?
I'm basing my interpretation on my traditional mix of ill informed speculation and opinionated spouting. I think that Gregory and Grayson have been red herrings all along.
Gregory because he is supposedly linked to a consortium interested in a takeover, hence the crashing odds and whispers.
Grayson because he was a former player who bizarrely seems to have a groundswell of supporters in his corner as well as some former team mates. He also appears desperate to make the move.
In my view, both would be shocking appointments and have never really been near the top of the list.
The consistency of the Gregory stuff and the delays pointed to the possibility that MM was negotiating with a potential buyer. It would make sense to avoid naming a new boss if there was going to be a change in ownership.
Then a proposed takeover appears to have stalled or died a death. MM is left to carry on and recruit someone. Hence his move for Ince last week. No doubt this was also encouraged by Ince for publicity purposes.
MM is then left with few options. He got a very long list of those who don't want it or he knows he couldn't work with because they would never put up with his nonsensical ways. He's then got a pathetic little list of has beens and non entities to choose from. And his deadline is upon us.
This can all only lead to one of two things. Some old tosspot like Reid or Bassett. Alternatively, some "almost certainly never-gonna-be" ex player.
Of course, an alternative name in the former camp could be Gregory. And Grayson could be slightly unfairly squeezed into the latter category. Therefore, he might actually sleepwalk into appointing one of these after all.
So what does this all tell us? Well, practically nothing to be honest. It just makes me feel that bouncing straight back up to the Championship seems to be miles away right now. With the main reason for this being the dithering old loony in charge and his extraordinary talent for fecking all things Leicester up.
