I was inspired to write this thread by the admirable Mike who wrote a sentence about Hammond on the pre-match Burnley thread.
To billions of Asians waving their King Power Loyalty Cards from Shanghai to Singapore and unable to see him in person there are major questions to be asked about Mr Hammond. There are no Dean Hammond songs. Why is it that nobody chants about him being "Here There" etc. Why no chants of Deano. Why does nobody start a thread about Dean Hammond?
Why when Mike writes a sentence about Dean Hammond does he confine it to three words describing his play. "Strong intelligent experienced". .
To be fair to Mike nobody could write more than a sentence about Dean Hammond. It is nearly impossible. There is less to Dean Hammond than meets the eye. When he is on the bench he is quiet occasionally leaving it to run with some of the less reprehensible Leicester substitutes I have watched him when referees have penalised Leicester. Not for him the jumping up and down or the swearing at officials. Dean Hammond is the anti-Stowell.
It is on the bench that you see the real qualities of a footballer. Nobody would judge Gary Taylor Fletcher from his performances on the pitch; it is on the bench that you see the measure and true greatness' of the man. The trouble with Dean Hammond is that he is too nice. This is the kind of man fathers hope their daughter will bring home - the prospect of a daughter getting involved with some other members of the Leicester bench - Good Gracious!
Dean Hammond is the kind of man who returns his library books on time always catches the weather forecast and avoids foreign holidays - "Isn't abroad horrible". He is a good neighbour. He hates neighbours cats coming into his garden but us too polite to say so . Mr Hammond likes a nice well mown lawn Not for him the creepy turrets of Castle Wasilewski
I should make it clear that when I say Dean Hammond is calm I do not mean the deep calm of a Jedi Master like Steve Walsh Sr. Dean Hammond is quiet and understated. He is Leicester's answer to Ian Duncan Smith.
Mr Hammond I salute you.
