It is difficult to recapture the explosiveness of the Chuck Berry era, Later music like the Beatles or The Sex Pistols built upon the foundation of those early rockers. Before rock and roll the charts were full of stuff like "How much is that doggie in the window" and "O Mein Papa"
The music of Chuck Berry, Little Richard etc. challenged the status quo as never before. The movie "Rock Around The Clock "was banned in some towns. The BBC had a policy of not playing rock and roll and actively pushed Calypso and Trad Jazz as more acceptable fashions. To hear rock and roll you needed to tune into Radio Luxembourg. People who suffered from religion even claimed it was s negro plot to corrupt the young.
One thing seemed certain the work of David Whitfield, Ruby Murray and Malcolm Vaughan - "real singers" would live on long after Elvis, Little Richard and Chuck Berry were forgotten.
RIP Chuck and thank you for so much great music.

Agree with a lot of the sentiments but there was some great music before rock and roll too. Crooners like Bing for example.

Martin McGuiness bites the dust.

"The reason he suddenly became a man of peace, was that he was desperately afraid that he was going to be arrested and charged with a number of murders."
Lord Tebbit

Tebbit.

But you'd do well to reflect that the was civil war (by any other name) in Ireland before McGuiness came, and there was peace (or something close to it) by the time he left. That would never have been achieved without people being prepared to put down the gun and to convince others to.

Or maybe he was a terrorist.
