RIP Carolyn Grace. I guess she won’t mean much to most people but she was Britain (and the world’s) only female Spitfire pilot.

That's very misleading. At that age she can only have piloted Spitfires long after the war. At the time they were built women were regularly delivering Spitfires and other planes to their units for use in the war effort.

Only if you make assumptions after reading the headline.
Tbf, whilst the article talks about her getting started restoring Spitfires in the 1980s, it completely ignores the delivery pilots of WW2. It would have been correct to headline her as having been "Britain's only living female Spitfire pilot".
That said, the article is so badly written it simultaneously claims that she was from Cornwall and Australia so what can you expect?

Jet Black (Brian Duffy)

Intellectual, artisan, drummer, storyteller & eccentric gentleman.

84...unbelievably the same age as my Mam, but decided to abandon his generation in favour of the next because it looked more fun.

It's 41 years since their extended encore at Loughborough Uni resulted in me having to walk home to Leicester, frozen to the bone & unable to even light a fag to keep warm due to sweat soaked matches.

No ****er was going to give a lift to some amphetamine eyed **** with blue hair wearing a Swedish army greatcoat either. I felt like shivering death when I got home. The bastards.

Almost a year & a half later I was part of their road crew, breaking various olympic sprint records to just barely make it into a fast departing truck pursued by 20 or so furious neo-nazis in Hamburg.

It's a good job I liked the music so much.

RIP Jet

It was only yesterday I was wondering which LP I should get as a Xmas present to my vinyl-loving son in law. I decided to have a look for Rattus Norvegicus at my local record store. Definitely going to look for it now!

My dad was at the same gig, 20 years old, although he says he had a considerably shorter walking home down Valley Road.

Thanks for that.

I wasn't feeling my age particularly this morning until reading that.

Your DAD FFS !

Still, then I realised that I was just about to turn 17 at the time so at least I'm younger than your dad, which is something to hold on to I guess !

Ruth Madoc has Hi-de-Hoed.

I remember when 79 seemed old. It doesn't now!

For some unknown reason I wore my uncle’s white suit jacket to go in. What a tosser I must have looked

Happy days
