I hate the place anyway. Always more and more reasons not to go there.
 
The low emissions zones are not so much about climate change (a subject on which I don't have the level of expertise of some on here to make dogmatic statements one way or the other) but air polution.

The combination of geography and concentration of major, heavily congested roads in this area lead to some of the worst atmospheric pollution levels in the country. The contribution of air traffic to this is relatively small and there is very little industrial emissions in the area.

As most of the emissions come from vehicles from elsewhere, it seems quite reasonable to apply the principle of "the polluter pays". Income will go to improvements in public transport and other measures to improve air quality.

The zone was indeed drawn up under the reign of Citizen Ken, but is perhaps instructive that Bonkers Boris, who said during his election campaign that he would scrap the whole idea, has in fact allowed it to go ahead.
