Was Breen the player that went to the world cup with the republic of Ireland but was not actually contracted to any club at that time or am i thinking of somebody else.

Yes it was Gary Breen. I think he went on to sigh for West Ham after the World Cup

de Vries is still our player, he may be part of our squad next season.

Yes but he isnt at present, so the squad is lacking experience, what I was eluding to was that since Kelly had taken over we had lost the services of two of our older heads, and that one way or another next season we will need some experience in the side, to compliment the talented youngsters we have.

I think today's selection proves that the most likely exit will be Patrik Gerrbrand, obviously RK has seen something that he isnt convinced about, my view will be that he will return to Sweden and that Breen or McAuley will come into to strengthen the squad.

That's precisely the point I was making :icon_conf

Yeah don't think breen would be too bad a signing but only as second choice to the 2 paddy's. I'm not convinced about gerrbrand. he looks like he struggles at times.

I don't really know what to make of him anymore, he seems calm and collected on the ball whenever I've seen him. I felt it was his fault we conceded the equaliser at Coventry.. I thought if that had been McCarthy he wouldn't have taken any chances and smashed that out for a corner before it had chance to roll through.

Having seen Nissa play there why would we need Breen? :102: :102:

Breen would be an OK signing in my book, but like the man said, CB is far from being a priority unless one or two are leaving. Midfield is without doubt the key area.

bad place to get references from at the moment but mackems arent very kind in the words they say about breen, they even dislike him almost as much as their keeper. bad signing i would think, getting a left back has to be priority

I got mixed feelings on this, generally I think you need at least one experienced defender in the team for positional sense and guiding the younger players but then you need young players alongside to do the running and keep with the pace of the game. We do have a problem with set pieces so this could be RK doing something about it, or it could be he already knows X player is leaving in the summer and he is planning the replacement.

What I will do is back RK with his transfer market dealings as he is getting the results on the pitch which is what matters, a good manager doesnt need superstars to win games he just needs players to suit his style and if this guy does that then he is a good signing. Remember wigan brought that experienced defender for their backline and he is apperently the main reason for all their clean sheets this season.

I'm surprised nobody commented on that before, it's a good point. Rumours don't very often come from the training ground, if so, I should imagine at the very least it would be part fact.

I would have thought that Breen would have been the corner stone of Sunderlands back line next season anyway.

Please, that way are guaranteed to score a few goals. Sunderland's defence was wo(nd)e(r)ful yesterday. :icon_roll
