Sheff Weds fans getting the 17:24 will get to Sheffield earlier than if they get the 17:39, so I don't see why they wouldn't use that train, if they get to the station early enough.

Maybe the BTP will decide they don't want loads of fans changing trains at Derby, so won't let them all go on the earlier train. But the 17:24 is the latest one I can get and still get home.

Yes I agree, they will get in 12 minutes earlier by changing at Derby, but I personally would much prefer to get a direct train rather than changing for the sake of 10 odd minutes. However like you say the BTP may decide what trains they do/don't get on. I think you'l be fine on your way home if i'm honest.

If they have Advance tickets they will be for later one; there are no advance tickets for an EMT/XC combination between Leicester and Sheffield. But as you say, it may be that fans are not given the choice of which train to get on.

Previous experience does suggest though that if the fans are escorted back to the station, they won't be there in time for the 17:24.

i'm getting the 19.43 train back to sheffield, hopefully most of their fans should have buggered off by then. don't want to face them after the game no matter what the result

don't see why not, as long as i can stumble my way to the station for 19.43 that'll be grand. getting into leicester for 11.30 so no doubt i'll see you kids about?

Yeah not sure where yet but I fancy watching Chelsea V man utd. I got 4 other mates coming for this one so got to see what everyone fancies. Will be in town though.

I thought they could seize alcohol now, or is that just for underage hoodie yobs on the street?
Different rules I guess, but under the legislation aimed at football fans it was omitted, albeit accidentally I guess. The other downside is, if you are caught trying to take alcohol into the ground, and are found, if you then drink it you could be arrested for being drunk in a public place (depending on where the search takes place) or for being drunk and disorderly.

Try testing that on a political demonstration... when it comes to crowd control, in practice police have the right to do pretty much as they please. The more so if a football match is involved.
The police have very little powers of detention short of arrest. The only time that they can hold crowds of people in an area is if they suspect that a breach of the peace is imminent. Whilst there is an argument in favour of this when a train load of fans arrive at a station relatively close to kick off, I would say that unless the Police have strong evidence to suggest otherwise, detaining and frogmarching fans to set destinations at 11.30am is not proportional in the vast majority of cases.

I was with 60 Chelsea fans sat in the Liverpool end last night and the stewards and police sorted out the problems at the end.

If the Sheff Wednesday fans want to mix it up in our end let them get on with it - I'm sure they will get the odd slap!

It has been alleged to me that if Sheff Wed go down it could be curtains for the Club.

Have to wait and see on this one. From the BBC. :icon_wink

Sheffield Wednesday will be saved from financial meltdown next week when a foreign consortium takes over the club in a £40m deal. (Various)

No, I was sensible enough to get in on a train at about 11 and went to the pub, if you do arrive with the crowds you deserve what you get for not planning your day.

Can my lad borrow your wife ?
For respectability purposes only.
He was herded up and taken to the ground before the turnstiles were open!

Being herded by the police is probably preferable to spending the afternoon with my wife.

(Oh sh!t what have I said).
