I don't think anyone could seriously argue that Carl Cort or Ade Akinbiyi were good signings.
But my argument is about their salary worth. Would they have been worth £2k a week? More than most people will ever earn?

The criteria for evaluating worth is as follows: results - results - results.
I'd have judged Cort to be worth little more than a kick in the bollocks per week. But my argument is about their salary worth. Would they have been worth £2k a week? More than most people will ever earn?
Have they made the wrong call then? How do you judge that?
Because around twenty other teams in this league are achieving similar results for much less expenditure.
I'd prefer to see the owners continue to cash roll the club...
The problem is, the wages are so disproportionate, how do you judge if they are worth it? Is even the best player worth £20k a week? Or the worst £50 a week? There is no sense to the salary beyond the ability of the agent to extract the most money that they can.
This reminds me of the explanation I was given for the salary that Junior Lewis was given, he was on £2k per week at Gillingham and had been on the bench for a while but PT/LCFC decided to offer him £10k per week to come to City, the agent then asked for £20k per week and City decided to offer £17k per week which was accepted, I don't see where there was any value judgement of the player in this.
You've not heard about the new FFP regulations then?
That doesn't seem a sensible criteria because it results in negative results.
however, I get plenty of discipline in other parts of my life.....
I've heard about them - and if you believe that the clubs and their financial advisors will not be capable of working around them then you are not as astute as I have previously thought.
On a wider issue i do understand that the way some clubs manage their financial affairs is a form of madness - however, I get plenty of financial discipline in other parts of my life and look to football for something different. I understand that there are others who would prefer the club they support to operate at a level of more obvious financial sustainability even if that means lowering ambitions - I don't share that view providing of course that its someone else's problem.
Will it all end in tears? Possibly. But thta's show business.
And therein lies the rub. Personally I preferred it when it was a sport.
I don't understand your reply - but then again I doubt if you do either,
I'm old - seriously old - but even i don't remember when football was a sport! I never even actually got to see Corinthian FC play!
As long as i can remember its been about money - and in lots of instances about "speculating to acccumulate" but now played out on a global scale with owners egos and 'prestige' as important as any actual financial return.
People keep saying this, but I'd wager that Cardiff, Brighton, Hull, Boro, Forest, Bolton, Wolves, Blackburn, Watford (on loan wages) and Brum are all pretty close if not higher.
If you interested have a look at Swiss Ramble's recent tweets, he did around up of accounts from last year. We are pretty much in the top five of every spending criteria. Clubs are in the same region though mind.
I don't understand your reply - but then again I doubt if you do either,
My niece is about to sit her GCSEs. Depressingly, she wouldn't have any idea what this means.x - x - x = -x
