My grandad used to take us to watch the speedway a lot when I was younger. He was a Geordie and loved the sport, so we went when he came down to visit. Used to go to a few other tracks too, but obviously mostly Leicester. The smell was so distinctive.

I never saw speedway there. We'd go on Boxing Day to the greyhound racing.

Forgotten era.

I lived on Woodgate when I was a kid & could hear the speedway engines from my bedroom at the back of the house on a Tuesday night (?)

Before that my grandad was racing manager for the greyhounds in the 50s. Moved to Derby to do the same job there later in the decade. Sadly this resulted in my mam growing up as a ****ing sheep shagger ! Never forgiven him for that.

I only know because somehow my 13 year old son ‘found out’ about him on YouTube.

He asked me what I thought so I then had to do a bit (only a bit though mind) of dogging to confirm to my son (in better English than this) that he is indeed a ****, not just a ****, but a supercunt.
